help with new character

Hey guys. New here and new to d and d. My buddy is running a 3.5 campaign based in eberron. Thieves guild type deal. Ive built out a lvl 5 elf scout archer. Im finding that my hp is way too low. Ive almost died twice already ha. I need to boost my ac. Was gonna swing for mithril breast plate. Gonna have to sell most of my stuff and steal more ha. Any advice?

Tell us your build (classes, feats), what are your stats, what are you currently using as gear, what resources do you have available to you (money, friends, connections, liabilities, etc), and what are the other players playing?
