What is the general opinion on a one-level dip into cleric for an artificer? Seems to me like if you go with the Magic and Good domains you get a pretty nice little mix of bonuses. Heavy armor, a bit of utility magic, the ability to use any level 1 cleric or wizard scroll without UMD, and the ability to use any cleric or wizard wand without UMD. Oh, and Protection from Evil.

Tbh i dont think its a good idea, as an artificer you would be much better served with going pure artificer.

Eh, if you're having problems succeeding with UMD as an Artificer, I have to feel like you're doing something wrong. Artificers are fundamentally casters, and I don't see this as a good reason to lose what amount to caster levels.

That said, depending on the power level of the party, it might not be outright character suicide. You'll be less powerful overall than if you hadn't done it, but since Artificers are so crazy powerful to begin with, you're still likely to be ahead of the curve of the rest of the party, unless they're all T1 casters.

It's not a total waste of a level, but your UMD should be high enough that most of the benefits will be easy for you to get otherwise. Also, there are probably much better domain choices than Good.

Why choose one domain when you can choose all of them (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14561250&postcount=160)?

The trick is mostly useful on low-ish level artificers that use a lot of wands. No need to make UMD checks (which at this point can still fail), thus no chance of falling to that 24 hour restriction if you roll a natural 1. Once your UMD check is high enough that you won't fail on a 1, there's no real point.
