It has been an hour or two since the destruction of the gate, and the small group of mercenaries that came with you through the gate have begun to dig in further, making what was supposed to be a simple initial camp into a fortification - they definitely don't know what's lurking out there, although they're making do with the sensor arrays they have at their disposal (not the full allotment for the expedition - quite a bit of the equipment is stuck on the other side) to try and find out. A pair of walkers patrol the perimeter of the fortified camp, scanning the misty woods with their chainguns.

While most of the group (who total up to 30 or so - most of them just ordinary enough soldiers, although a third is made up by "specialists" - ranging from tech specialists to medics to things like mages and psychics) remain in the camp (or at least in close proximity), ensuring that the work is done and that the men are safe, the commander (who, along with a pair of bodyguards, are the only Dagon representatives on the plate) has began to coordinate excursions into the woods to begin to get a idea about the surrounding regions and to overall get a better impression of the lay of the land. As of yet, nothing dangerous has presented itself, but none of the mercs are letting that lull themselves into a false sense of security.

Dorian rises from a sitting position and grabs his backpack from next to him, having finished aiding the construction of fortifications.

This is wrong. This op cannot get any worse., he thinks to himself. I'd best report anyhow.

He jogs briskly up to the commander.

"Dorian Averman reporting for duty, sir. What can I do?", he says with a smile and a salute.

The commander looks up from the table, loaded with built in computers and giving him information on the current situation, and nods at Dorian as he approaches. The commander is wearing high-grade cybersuits, the suit's chameleon systems currently giving him the black and red colours of the Dagon Order, and he carries a holstered guass machine pistol, the type of firearm favoured by the Order's commanders. Although his face is obscured by the suit, Dorian can tell that the commander has some cybernetics, at least in and around his mouth and voicebox, as his voice is one that comes from a machine.

"Ah, Mister Averman...why yes, I do have some work for you. However, you won't be alone, so I'll wait until the other two arrive before I begin. I do dislike repeating myself."

Away from the commander, Jun and Sean soon find themselves with one of the bodyguards, similarly dressed to the commander but carrying heavier guass weapons, who direct them towards the commander with a wordless gesture.

"DoorMan this is Walker Patrol 13-Alpha we are RTB" Aiken breathes a sigh of relief after another uneventful patrol. Looking up he checks his internal chronometer and sees he is right on time. He uploads the mission reports and moves toward the new waypoint.

Aiken approaches the commanders table and comes to attention(as best he can in power armor), "Sir Gunnery Sargent Aiken reporting as ordered"

Jun sighs as he holds his hoverboard under one arm. He steps up to where he's expected and just waits. Impatiently waiting to try out his new toys.

The commander nods at the others as they arrive. "Now you're here, we'll begin. The mission is simple, really. As you no doubt know, we've began to send scouting parties out to the surrounding area. One of those parties was a squad of unmanned drones. A little shorter than a mile away, we lost contact with them. The last transmission we obtained showed some kind of structure - a bunker or some sort, it seems, although we didn't get a clear picture. It seems to be jamming any attempts at communication nearby, so by the time the drones got close enough, the signals were of such a poor quality that we couldn't get much from it. You're the group we're sending out to investigate. The table shows where you need to go and the other information we have, and I'll transfer a copy to any computers or similar hardware if you want it. Now, something to keep in mind is that the drones are out of contact. Now, that means they should just be sitting there waiting for a signal, but given how things have gone so far, I'd advise being cautious around them, if you find them."

He indicates towards his table, which now mainly shows a map of the surrounding area (with any information from recon annotating it). The bunker is currently highlighted, with a side window showing the information available - a bad quality image (just showing a metal wall built into a hillside - there doesn't appear to be anything of interest on the exterior), an overview of the surrounding terrain (a rather hilly area of woodland, with a dense, chilly fog hugging the trees and limiting visibility with normal eyesight) and a short description of the drone squadron sent (a trio with bestial chassis, mostly canine in overall body design, modified for reconnaissance and stealth operations - cloaking and camouflage surfaces, powerful arrays of visual systems, that kind of thing - led by a fourth with a similar chassis but a proper intelligence behind it - the notes indicate that although the four are relatively new and made by Dagon, the fourth's core systems are plate-tech)

"Sir, if you can transfer it to my sleeve display, I'll be off.", Dorian says with a mild grin, tapping his left foot out of habit. He hasn't had this sort of mission for a while, and he hopes he hasn't gotten a little rusty.

Jun takes off his backpack and pulls out his laptop, "I could use the information as well, especially appropriate radio frequencies in case the jamming ceases or is stopped."

Gunny Aiken looks over the 3d projection on his heads up display. "Understood sir. Question though what are the teams individual capabilities? I mean I know what mine are but am at a loss as to the expertise of my teammates."

Dorian turns to Gunny and offers a handshake.

"Specialist Dorian Averman. Fortifications Engineering as well as firearms, lightsabre, and hand-to-hand training. Wilderness Survival training as well. Pleased to meet you.", Dorian says in a monotone, and with a slight grin on his face.

Gunny mind-clicked his battle visor and gauntlet causing them to clam-shell open and shook his teammates hand, "Nice to have a Specialist along. Your expertise will help us analyze the enemy defensive structure. I am an assault and boarding specialist. So you point out the weakness and I will exploit it."

Dorian chuckles.

"Good that we have a nice team dynamic then.", Dorian replies. He turns to the third team member and asks, "Shall we be off, then?"

"I'm a bit of a tracker-slash-profiler and Fire Mage; but my true love is just to see the look on someone's face when they finally realize how far their head fits up their own a**." Jun smirks, with a bit of a red twinkle in his eyes. "we also work heavily in Kinetic Redistribution," he chuckles at his private joke.

The commander nods and taps at a few screens on his table before looking up. "The information should be coming through now. I've made sure to include communication information with all of our teams, both here and out and about. Hopefully with your skill sets you should be able to deal with whatever comes up against you. A final word: In the data package I've also included our general knowledge of the area, including the predicted locations of interplane passages. If something goes wrong here while you're out and you're alone, those will be your best bet at finding a way back to civilization, if our information is solid."

He straightens up, and gives a salute. "Good luck."

Dorian salutes the commander. Turning around on one foot, he motions for the others to follow him. Dorian heads along the indicated coordinates.

Gunny returns the commanders salute and then closes the clamshell. He then follows the waypoint as he preps the brief into a memory capsule and sends it to upload. Once they are clear of friendlies he marks his teammates with IFF and then powers up his sensor suite to passive.

The three of you set off into the woods, the camp behind you continuing as it was, filling in any gaps caused by your absence. The trip is a quiet one, with nothing appearing in the woods, not even benign wildlife. As expected, communications systems go offline a you approach the objective, although it seems other sensors are fine, as Sean can see when they finally run across something interesting - a pile of drone chassis, matching the descriptions given to you, and according to hyperspectral sensors, still red-hot, although they are far away enough for the group to not feel the heat.

Dorian moves in to examine the chassis and check if the fourth drone chassis is present.

Gunny runs the sensor data through his ID library while he scans for threats, "Careful Dorian that thing is white hot"

Volthawk
2013-05-13, 12:31 PM
Despite the chassis being in a bit of a mess, with bits of them all jumpled up into the pile and the fact that the heat they emit makes direct handling difficult, an examination suggests that there are only three drones present in the pile.

Dorian squints. This isn't right. The fourth drone was plate-tech...

"One drone still missing!", Dorian shouts.

He checks the pile for any plate-tech.

Volthawk
2013-05-15, 03:42 PM
A further search shows that none of the core plate-tech systems shown in the plans of the drone are present. Also, none of the built-in weaponry present in the designs of all of the drones are present.

"They've been stripped of weapons and plate-tech.", Dorian declares after walking back to the others. "Anybody think they can find more about who or what took them?"
