Rules question - PrC Paladin and Charging Smite Alternate Class Feature (ACF?)

Is it possible for me to take Cleric 1 / / Knight 6 / / PrC Paladin 2

and then take the alternative class feature Charging Smite instead of the Special Mount ?

Purely out of curriosity.

Technically no, because it is specified as being a Paladin ACF and technically the Prestige Paladin is not the same as the Paladin. It's the same way that you couldn't use the Wildshape Ranger ACF to give up a Ranger's combat styles for Wildshape, and then give up Wildshape for the Shapechange Druid ACF. If you asked your DM they probably would let you, but RAW, no, because of the actual classes involved. Also this is even more complicated because the ACF says Level 5, but level 5 is not when the Prestige Paladin gets its Special Mount.
