Gnome have the 1/day speak with animals (burrowing mammals only)...

a gnome has a pure breed snow wolf as his companion/mount/whatever...
we have as given (RL fact that isn't changed in game) that snow wolfs build
their nests by borrowing into snow... (same goes for polar bears)...
would you allow those mammals to qualify for gnomes racial ability?

I don't want other solutions to talk with them, just if the above applies.

Thnx :)

I would probably take "burrowing animals" as "burrowing into earth". Snow just isn't the same.

But then, on the other hand, as long as it doesn't harm the game and is fun, why not?

No, I wouldn't allow it.

I cant find em on any burrowing animal list on google (if you can then more power to ya) so my answer is no.

I would say no, since wolves have no burrow speed like a badger does.
But then again,

as long as it doesn't harm the game and is fun, why not?

I'd love to see that.

Gnome: <bzzt> Hey snow wolf, you seen where that bandit went?

Snow Wolf: Can't talk, burrowing.

Polar bears already talk though, it helps them reclaim their rightful bear thrones in alternate dimensions.

I would allow it. It doesn't seem very game breaking. I would invoke the rule of cool

I would allow the player to give up the normal speak with animals and take "speak with pet".

Essentially the gnome has tinkered with the inate magic to allow him to speak with his buddy the snow wolf but has lost the link to other animals.

Could let it be "speak with wolves" very specific and will impact a game on any given day like "speak to animals" burrowing animals only.

RAW? Would never let it fly.

However, why the heck not. It's a cool, fun ability, and definitely not gamebreaking. It's not like the wolf will have anything especially monumental to say (INT of 2 and all, assuming it's not a paladin mount.)

Your reasoning seems pretty reasonable, so personally, I'd allow it.

This. Gnomes are cool. Burrowing Snow Wolves are cool. Gnomes can talk to Snow Wolves.
Alternatively you could go for the whole backstory part of the Gnome growing up in northern conditions, so instead of burrowers (which gnomes ceel akin to because of their underground houses), they would have a connection with arctic wildlife.

My vote goes for what this guy says.
