Biblioclastic Revisionist of Vecna

While all worshipers of the god Vecna revere secret knowledge, the Biblioclast Revisionist takes this doctrine a step further by actively destroying knowledge. The Revisionist see's his duty as lifting the burden of knowledge and history from the masses, making the world fresh and new. Revisionists perform their sacred duty by destroying texts, historical artifacts and even erasing knowledge from the mind's of their adversaries. Above all, Revisionists abstain from making history through their own actions. They avoid the dramatic, hide their identities, and always try to go as unnoticed as possible in their works. When they do act publicly, they always hide their actions and motivations by using surrogates, manipulating others and leaving false clues for investigators.

BECOMING A BIBLIOCLASTIC REVISIONIST
Most Biblioclastic Revisionists are Clerics, Bards, Sorcerers, Favored Souls and other magicians, and nearly all are multi-classed. Wizards and Archivists rarely become Revisionists, as their magic is dependent on spellbooks and scroll.

Weapon Proficiencies: A revisionist does not gain any new armor or weapon proficiencies.

Erase (Su): At first level, the revisionist may erase text with a simple touch. This functions like the erase spell, with a caster level equal to the revisionist’s hit dice. Using this ability is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunities. The revisionist may perfectly recall anything he has erased with this ability or the Erase spell, with a DC 15 autohypnosis check.

Hidden Master (Ex): The revisionist always works from the shadow, manipulating events from afar. He gains a profane bonus to his Bluff, Disguise, Forgery, Hide, Move Silently and Sleight of Hand checks, equal to his class level. The DCs of gather information checks to learn about the revisionist and the spellcraft DCs to identify his spells are increased by the same amount.

Secret Name (Ex): The revisionist goes to great lengths to hide his name. If another creature ever learns the name of the revisionist, they may use it against him. Any creature who says the name of the revisionist in his presence gains a bonus on saves against any of the revisionist’s spells, spell-like abilities or supernatural abilities and a bonus on attack rolls made against the revisionist, equal to his class level. These bonuses remain until the end of the encounter.

Lore(Ex): At 2nd level, a revisionist gains the ability to know legends or information regarding various topics, just as a bard can with bardic knowledge. The revisionist adds her level and her Intelligence modifier to the lore check, which functions otherwise exactly like a bardic knowledge check. Levels in bard or other classes that grant bardic knowledge or lore, stack with levels in revisionist for determining the revisionist’s lore bonus.

Undetectable Alignment (Ex): At 2nd level, the revisionists alignment is not detectable by any means. This is an extraordinary ability, and is not subject to being dispelled or even suppressed in anti-magic areas.

Revisionist Spells (Ex): At 3rd level, the revisionist adds the following spells to a spell list of a single spellcasting class. Once this class is chosen it cannot be changed. The revisionist automatically learns these spells, once he is able to cast that level of spell.

0th level spell: Erase, Read Magic
1st level spell: Misdirection, Undetectable Alignment
2nd level spell: Illusory Script, Secret Page
3rd level spell: Glibness, Nondetection
4th level spell: Detect Scrying, Zone of Silence
5th level spell: False Vision, Modify Memory
6th level spell: Disintegrate, Mislead
7th level spell: Project Image, Sequester
8th level spell: Mind Blank
9th level spell: Mage's Disjunction

Still Master (Su): At 4th level, The revisionist may cast any spell as if it were affected by the Still Spell metamagic feat, without affecting its spell slot or casting time.

Nondetection (Ex): At 5th level, the revisionist and his possessions become difficult to detect by divination spells such as clairaudience/clairvoyance, locate object, and detect spells. Nondetection also prevents location by such magic items as crystal balls. If a divination is attempted against the revisionist or an item in his possession, the caster of the divination must succeed on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) against a DC of 15 + revisionist caster level for his primary casting class. This is an extraordinary ability, and is not subject to being dispelled or even suppressed in anti-magic areas.

Biblioclasm (Su): At 6th level, the revisionist can unleash a burst of expurgating force, that destroys images and text. The revisionist may use this ability once per day, and it requires a full round action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
The Biblioclasm is a sphere shaped area effect, with a radius equal to 10 feet per class level. Within the sphere, all non-magical text and images are automatically expurgated. Magical items with text or images upon them must make a willpower save or be expurgated. Most magic items are not destroyed by this and continue to function, except magic scrolls, books, paintings and tattoos. Any magical writing or image created by a spell, spell-like or supernatural ability is potentially destroyed, as if affected by a Greater Dispel Magic or Break Enchantment spell. This includes spells like arcane mark, explosive runes, symbol of death, illusory script, major image, mirror image, mislead, sepia snake sigil. The save DC of these effects is 10 + the revisionist’s class level + the revisionist’s wisdom modifier. The caster level of the effect is equal to the caster level of the revisionist’s primary casting class. The revisionist and his possessions are immune to the effects of his own Biblioclasm, but not those of other revisionists.
Expurgation is the removal of text, symbols and images from objects. Books turn to blank pages, tapestries lose their dye, sculptures become featureless stone and wood blocks, engravings rise to the surface and disappear, paintings become blank canvases, mosaic tiling becomes monochrome clay tile, coins lose their engravings, knit and woven patterns become plain simple weaves and tattoos disappear. In general, any artificial detailing, text or imagistic element is removed from its medium which becomes neutral and featureless as if it had never been worked.
Any text, symbol or image destroyed by the Biblioclasm becomes perfectly known to the revisionist and maybe perfectly recalled with a DC 25 autohypnosis check.

Silent Master (Su): At 7th level, the revisionist may cast any spell as if it were affected by the Silent Spell metamagic feat, without affecting its spell slot or casting time.

Hide in Plain Sight (Su): At 8th level, the revisionist can use the Hide skill even while being observed. As long as she is within 10 feet of some sort of shadow or inside a library, a revisionist can hide himself from view in the open without anything to actually hide behind. He cannot, however, hide in his own shadow.

Mindblank (Ex): At 9th level, the revisionist is protected from all devices and spells that detect, influence, or read emotions or thoughts. This protects against all mind-affecting spells and effects as well as information gathering by divination spells or effects. Mind blank even foils limited wish, miracle, and wish spells when they are used in such a way as to affect the revisionist’s mind or to gain information about it. In the case of scrying that scans an area the revisionist is in, such as arcane eye, the spell works but the revisionist simply isn’t detected. Scrying attempts that are targeted specifically at the revisionist do not work at all. This is an extraordinary ability, and is not subject to being dispelled or even suppressed in anti-magic areas.

Cataclysm of Knowledge (Su): At 10th level, the revisionist may turn his opponent’s scholarly pride and hubris against them. Once per day as a full round action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity, the revisionist emits a burst of nihilistic energy. The Cataclsym is a sphere shaped area effect, with a radius equal to 10 feet per class level. Any creature within the area that has ranks in Knowledge skills or the Bardic Knowledge (or Lore) class feature must make a willpower save DC 10 + the revisionist’s class level + the revisionist’s wisdom modifier. The creature takes damage equal to his combined ranks in knowledge skills plus his effective Bardic Knowledge class level, a successful willpower save reduces this damage by half. If a creature is killed by this damage, it is incinerated by divine fire and cannot be restored to life except by a Wish or Miracle spell. The revisionist is immune to the effects of his own Cataclysm, but not those of other revisionists.

Forgotten Master (Ex): At 10th level, the revisionist has achieved near pefect anonymity and he fades easily from the mind of those who learn of him. Any creature who learns the name of the revisionist must make a make a willpower save DC 10 + the revisionist’s class level + the revisionist’s wisdom modifier or forget the revisionists name one hour later. Any non-magical text or imagistic likeness of the revisionist fades to to blank nothingness after one week, after which the revisionist learns of the object and may recall its erased contents perfectly with a DC 35 autohypnosis check.

PLAYING A BIBLIOCLASTIC REVISIONIST
You hide in the shadows and avoid conflict. Your goal, the seizing and destruction of knowledge is a slow but steady activity. You prefer to use pawns, surrogates and third parties to do your work. Common methods of manipulation that suit your purposes are blackmail, disinformation, extortion, illusions, lies, mind control and temptation. You must choose your own targets. Museums, Libraries, Churches, Temples, Government Buildings, Schools and Universities all make wonderful targets for Biblioclasm, but are often highly guarded and protected. On the other hand, the ancient ruins of such places from civilizations long past are easy targets, provided ancient wards and new residents are not within them. But hatching your plots and schemes requires people, and people tend to live in cities. Wherever you go, you only stay long enough to get the job done are quick to leave when things get hot.
Combat: Most revisionists avoid direct combat, preferring others fight their battles for them. When forced into combat, defensive magics and disabling spells are often your choice. Magics that allow you flee are especially helpful.
Resources: Most revisionists have few material possessions, though their resources are often vast. Revisionists cultivate their control over others, utilizing their resources in their plans. In doing so, he has a steady supply of scapegoats and fall men, who can be blamed for his machinations. By avoiding the accumulation of his own, material power and wealth, the revisionist makes himself less noticeable. Some artifacts and treasures might prove too useful to be immediately destroyed, but a revisionist must be wary to not let such things be seen and learned of by others, lest they fall into the hands of others.

BIBLIOCLASTIC REVISIONISTS IN THE WORLD
Daily Life: Most people never notice a revisionist, as they go to great lengths to seem plain, unimportant and out of view. The average day for a revisionist often just involves lying low. While many adventurers live fast paced lives, revisionists realize that this can draw unneeded attention. Most activities a revisionist undertakes are plain and simple, completing his mask of being completely unimportant. Revisionsts might be found in taverns, city plazas, markets and business.
Notables: Few known Biblioclastic Revisionists are known to history. Most of what is officially known about the practioners of the philosophy is written in holy texts of the Church of Boccob. Such tomes are highly guarded and duplicated, for fear that Revisionists will erase them. One notable revisionist was called Jans Brixton, though that was not his true name, who destroyed the Great Library of the Cathedral of the All-Seeing Eye by inciting mobs to turn against the scholars of the church.
Organizations: No official organizations of revisionists exist and as each revisionist strives to act individually in secrecy. Occasionally, revisionists will join more mainstream cults of Vecna, and like many such cultists they always do so with pseudonyms and ulterior motives. Revisionists often infiltrate other organizations, such as scholarly and governmental institutions to undermine them from within. They also often infiltrate religious movements, both secret and public, and push them to greater acts of fundamentalist purging.

I cant believe nobody's commented on this one yet. (:smallconfused: maybe the comments were erased?) This class is well-written and appears to be well-balanced. You've written it with Vecna in mind, but I can see it being adaptable to a number of different deities and settings. Overall, very well-done. Not enough love for Vecna out there.
