((OOC thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279113).))

Around five months ago, a series of meteor impacts occurred worldwide. While the impacts themselves were relatively small and largely harmless, they had an unexpected effect. Within a week, reports were flaring up about "bizarre incidents" of seemingly supernatural abilities being exhibited by people with no previous history as such. It was determined that these supernatural abilities were called "Stands" and each had an energy-manifestation. Most Stands' manifestations were found to be invisible to those without Stands.

Now, in a city and university near one of the Stand meteors' impacts, a rash of Stand activity has gotten everyone on edge, normals and Stand users alike. Rumors of Stand-related murders are starting to get people at each others' throats. These are the wielders of the Stands, crusaders in starlight fated for battle. This is their story.

~

Carrie Andrews flops into a soft chair in the library. Good ol' Polnareff Central University with its quiet, comfy libraries; nowhere better to study, oftentimes, what with how loud the dorm halls could get even without a roommate. Though her room was the only place private enough for a few things---obvious ones like changing clothes, but there was also the issue of the redheaded girl.

She was only redheaded if you actually paid attention to the hair sticking out under her wool cap, only orange-eyed if you paid attention to the eyes above the flowing red scarf. Swathed in sunset colors from head to toe, Carrie couldn't let the girl be seen by anyone, or at least she thought so. The girl wasn't a secret girlfriend or a freeloader hanging out in her dorm, though---she wasn't really a girl at all. She was a Stand, the manifestation of a unique energy Carrie's body could materialize with a single thought.

Now, of course, she wasn't the only one. She knew others had Stands and some were even open about it---people had thrown around rumors a certain bubbly blonde using hers to reach top-shelf books in this very library, even---but Carrie was very much on the shy side in general. She couldn't just come out with stuff like her crush on that punky girl at the restaurant down the street, or the old scars on her forearms, and those were normal things---how could she ever reveal her Stand?

Then again, if she did call the red-swathed figure into being here and now, it might not be noticed at all. Research seemed to indicate that most Stands weren't visible to non-Stand users... but what if someone here had a Stand and saw her with hers out? After all, there were those rumors about someone in the city killing people with a Stand. It was getting everyone riled about the whole issue.

Sighing, the black-haired girl brushes bangs from her left amber eye and starts to read the Metamorphoses.

Apples were made of mostly water. This meant that Leonardo had a challenge ahead of him. See if he could eat this thing before it froze. He took a bite and began to juggle the fruit, keeping it out of contact as much as he could as he walked down the road, power chewing. So apparently there were some sciency people around here somewhere on this university. He exhaled, frosted breath evaporating as is left his nose and entered the light. While amazing at times, it was somewhat obnoxious to have this Stand. Or at least to have it going so constantly. Maybe they could fix him so that it didn't need to be?

He made no effort to hide himself from the sight as he walked down the road, eating half of his apple before it started becoming hard, and had only one bite left when he struck solid ice. So very, very close. He tossed the core into a garbage tin, sighing as he wiped off his hands. He was getting better at this. Now let's see... the lab was in... that direction!

Things needed doing, not right now of course, or even necessarily that day, but eventually he'd have to get down to them. It was rather hopeless thinking he could put off writing that last part of his assignment and never have to get back to it but for now it could wait in favor of a stroll through the university corridors. He wasn't heading anywhere in particular at all, just passing by a few locations and moving on, thinking mainly. Dmitri Lawton was doing his best not to pay any mind to the occasional glare he got from strangers or passerby's. They weren't his fault anyway, not much of his reputation was. It could all be traced back to the looming partially-ethereal force that rested two of its multiple hands upon his shoulders and radiated a feeling of observation and the sound of hushed whispers.

He could tell that it was watching him. It was always watching something and more often than not he was the subject of its curiosity. It didn't unnerve him, not when he was its focus. No, only when it watched others did it become a problem, because when it did it would know things about them. It wasn't even anything you could tell by looking at them, it was just information that he had no right nor desire to know, and try as he might there was no way to get out of knowing those things. Paranoia, for that was its name, would just casually lean over and tell him those things without the consent of Dmitri himself or the subject of its wondering.

So for now, he let it watch him. It could look and listen all it wanted because as long as it wasn't looking at anyone else Dmitri could have his thoughts to himself. And that he did, while he walked down the university corridor near the science block entrance. Pondering various things, like the person tossing around an apple that he'd walked by hardly a second ago. Another stand-user.

It was the end of another twelve hour shift for Randii. She was in the back of the restaurant, putting her apron away and grabbing her backpack. It wasn't the worst day of work she had. Sure, not long after the bars closed, there was a guy getting a liitle bit frisky while she took hos order. But, she got away with dumping a full pot of coffee in his lap, so she called that an even trade.

Her backpack in place, Randii punched out on the timeclock and headed out the back. She wasn't too friendly with any of her coworkers, so she never really stayed to chat with any of them. Besides, she didn't want to leave her Stand waiting too long.

Leaning against the building, right by the back door, was a tall, feminine figure in bright, canvas clothes and hat. Her bright blue eyes darted to the door as Randii's pierced face stuck out of it.

Hey Karny. Time to go.

Karn Evil 9 gave a short nod and fell into step behind Randii, not saying a word. Karny never really spoke outside of her performances, which after having the Stand for a while, Randii found herself getting a little disappointed by that fact. Nevertheless, Randii actually enjoyed having the Stand with her.

Adjusting her backpack a little, Randii started her walk to her small apartment on the other side of the campus. She always took the quickest route through the middle of the scho grounds, grateful the school wasn't too huge.

Karissa was in the library as well, though not, strictly, to study. The quiet made it a good place for other things, as well, and so, with a stack of thesauri and rhyming dictionaries, along with a massive notebook, which had clearly had numerous pages beyond what it had originally started with threaded in, she was now heading for a chair.

"She would be good for you, you know...", her Stand murmured into her ear, pointing at a pretty girl ahead of them, and twining its clawed fingers through its owner's, gently squeezing her hand. "She seems to be a nice person, from all we've heard, and you could use a friend. And it's not as though it would kill you to talk to her."

Karissa blushed, shaking her head, though she also smiled faintly at Feast, relaxing just a bit, if anyone were to, for some reason - such as, if they were a Stand user, the burning bird-thing walking with her - be watching her closely.

"But she's reading... I don't want to disturb her... And even if I did anyway, that wouldn't be much use for what you have in mind...", Karissa protested softly, frowning a bit at the manifestation, which, in some ways, she had come to see as an older sibling.

"So just sit next to her. She'll take a break eventually, and you can talk to her then. Or if not, well, it's not as though you lose anything by doing it, so why not?", Feast answered, shrugging, and gathering up the loose leash that dangled between them in its free hand, so that it posed less risk of tripping them both.

And, so, she proceeded to do just that, Feast taking a place on the arm of her chair, though should Carrie look up when Karissa sits down, she'll probably note - if she pays attention to anything else about her after seeing Feast - that her cheeks are still faintly red.

Gabriel Blake listened intently to his surroundings. It was quiet; Too quiet. Such a hush could only portend trouble. It was like the calm before a storm. Where were the raucous students who usually polluted the air with their pointless shouting? To Gabriel, their absence boded ill.

He didn't bother to voice these concerns to anyone else. Had he done so, they'd just have dismissed him as a paranoid crank. 'But Mr Blake' (they'd say) 'this is a library! Of course it's going to be quiet!' Naive fools. With growing unease, Gabriel turned to the next page of 'Advanced Game Theory, Volume 5'. Ah well, at least he had a good seat upon which to await disaster. The chairs in this library were very comfortable.

Perhaps a little too comfortable...

Carrie shivers, feeling an odd chill, and looks up from her notes to see OH GODS WHAT IS THAT. Tensing and cringing away, she bites her lip to stifle a noise into a little strangled sound as DitD flares from her body and clenches its gloved fists.

W-w-who are you? She manages to stammer out at the blushing little goth girl and her hellish nightmare of a Stand. Put that thing away before another User sees us and something happens!

Her brain manages to notice things after a second. This girl is... well, she's a pretty thing, though she absolutely needs to eat more. She's scrawnier than Carrie! Someone get her a tall glass of milk and some steak and eggs or something...

Leo had already been in the library, so he walked past that. Next was the engineering building, also already visited and thus ignorable. Finally, Leo came to the science labs and opened up the door. When he released the handle little bits of frost had formed on the glass and metal and he heard and felt the crackle of ice being broken. It disappeared almost instantly, of course, but the next student that entered a minute later wondered why the door felt chilled. Were the guys in lab 6 pulling another prank?

Leo, on the other hand, sat in a chair and waited to see if anyone important looking in a lab coat appeared. Since he wasn't actually a student, he couldn't really ask anyone for help, since if it was guessed he would most likely get kicked off of campus. Which wasn't a good plan for him, since he couldn't get answers if he was removed.

{OOC: Ok, that's enough waiting. If things don't get moving soon, then this RP is going to die before page three.}

Put that thing away before another User sees us and something happens!

Carrie's warning came too late. The two Stands had already been spotted. A book on game theory surreptitiously sprouted eyes and turned to watch them. Gabriel (to whom the eyes belonged) was grateful that his own Stand had chosen to stay hidden. Thanks to that, he'd be able to make a discreet exit when these girls started fighting to the death.

Randii ran her hand trough her short, green hair as she walked through the middle of the campus. She was thinking about dying her hair again, but wasn't sure what to go with this time. Pink, maybe?

Her route home from work often took her past the library, but she rarely ever went in. She wasn't actually a student, so why would she?

As she walked, she saw a young man that caught her attention. It wasn't really anything about him that held her gaze. No, it was the purple cloud hanging onto his shoulders with a pair of clawed arms like some kind of demented, Lovecraftian parrot.

Another Stand user. She had seen some around campus, but the number of non-Stand user was still higher.

She didn't remember seeing this one before. Maybe he was new to the area, or something. Either way, Randii will stare at him for a little while more, her gaze caught by his Stand.

Carrie stares at the strange girl and her frightening Stand, scooting away with DitD between her and them. She's met other Stand users before, but... well, that was before all the talk of the killings. Two people living near campus are dead, allegedly by a Stand... and now people often seem to be at each other's throats, at least when it comes to Stand users.

Is this girl it? Or is she suspecting Carrie? Or is it neither?

Karissa flinches back, curling in on herself, when Carrie yells at her, though a moment later, she does, in fact, dismiss TFIS, the strange stand leaving not even a wisp of smoke behind as it vanishes.

"Sorry,", she says softly, picking nervously at the sleeve of her jacket, head dropping so that her hair mostly hides her face, though it can be seen that her blush is rapidly moving towards a bright crimson from the faint pinkish tinge it was when she first sat down. "And I'm Karissa..."

When Carrie backs away, she pulls back slightly as well, curling in a bit more, and sighing softly, seeming almost... Resigned, as though she was expecting things to go at least this badly.

Alexander Lucas has quite a bit on his mind. His course load could be called ambitious, and he has an excessive amount of work to do at all times. Several hours after he finished with his classes, Alexander has completed all of the required work assigned to him. Leaning back in his chair, he stretches for a moment before collecting his notes and computer and folding both neatly into his backpack. Standing up, he glances around his spartan room before hefting the backpack onto his shoulders. He still needed to study, but he wanted to do it somewhere else.

Making his way through his dorm, Alexander exits out onto the campus, looking around for a second before making his way towards the library on campus.

It was inevitable that it would happen. He'd done it before and it was going to keep happening no matter how hard he tried to prevent it. Dmitri had somehow managed to walk facefirst into a wall. Again.

It was absolutely dumbfounding how often this happened, practically every single time he went for a stroll, it was uncanny. Nevertheless it did make him take a pause from his thought and examine his surroundings, namely the library entrance. He'd passed some people on the way here, a green-haired girl in particular who seemed to have caught Paranoia's attention before he managed to get out of range. It didn't matter. He was here now and there was little else for it, the library would be a decent place to think or, if he really got desperate, to work his assignment. And so he made his way further into the building, arriving in a room where thankfully no-one would have witnessed his unfortunate meeting with the wall. He made his way to a table a sizable distance away from two girls who appeared to be having a decent conversation. The reason for his distance was simply to prevent his menacing friend from bothering either of them.

There were a number of odd things about those two, and he couldn't help being interested in what they were saying as both he and his wayward shadow got a little too invested in other peoples business. He tried to pass it off as thoughtful pondering though, it was the best he could do. The both of them appeared to have their fair share of issues, judging by the way they spoke and reacted to eachother.

Carrie didn't so much yell as... well, the yelling equivalent of whispering, but the effect was the same. Her Stand doesn't exit, but she gets a bit less tense now.

Um... I'm... Carrie... but why are you just walking up to me with your Stand out? Have you just not been paying attention to the whole mess that's going on these days or soemthing? She sighs. Cute and shy as Karissa may be, more pressing is the fact that she apparently doesn't know what's going on, or does but doesn't understand the way this whole mess makes walking up to another User with one's Stand out a bad idea.

Seriously, you're going to get yourself in trouble doing that.

"It's not like I knew you could see it... And I have been a little out of the loop, too, I guess... What mess are you talking about?", Karissa asks, raising her head to look at Carrie, though not enough for her hair to fall fully out of her face, seeming faintly hopeful. "I just figured I could use the support if I actually ended up talking to you, seeing as it was Feast who talked me into coming over in the first place."

Though she's relaxed somewhat, Karissa is still picking at the sleeve of her jacket, leaving small dents and scars in the leather, amidst a welter of similar marks, and nervously chewing at her lip, flesh around the area going white, and a small bead of blood welling up.

"Someone is coming. On the left. Campus Security."

The voice whispered its warning in Leonardo's head, devoid of emotion. At least Snap knew what Leo was looking out for... So the User was able to plan. He obviously did not belong in here, what with his country boy outfit and mechanic's cap (He should probably invest in one of those Hipster outfits or something one of these days). Now what to do to about this guard? Hmmm...

Leo stood up, walked over to a drinking fountain and pretended that he was getting a drink. He then checked his watch and mumbled, "I guess we aren't meeting today..." before he walked out of the door, nodding and tipping his hat at the guard. The cracks in the synthesized leather that covered the chair he had been sitting on was not noticed for hours, and by that time it was just a mystery of the science labs.

Outside Leo walked off, mumbling about never getting in to do anything in this place... He noticed that there was a man with something evil hanging over his shoulder walking into the library. Probably another Stand user. Unfortunately, Leo couldn't really talk to the man since he was already inside of the library and Leo didn't have a student ID. Bother. Ah well, with a Stand like that the guy was likely really, really creepy anyway.

Heh. That guy just walked into a wall.

Randii chuckles a little. She didn't expect that to happen.

Her curiosity gets the better of her, and she decides to follow the young man into the library. She doesn't go in with him, though. She hangs outside for a moment, searching through her backpack. As soon as the next student gets to the door, she swings her bag back on and follows that student through. She holds the door open for Karny, then walks into the building.

Once inside, she glances around for the young man so she can watch him. Mostly to see if he'll run into another wall.

While the two girls were squaring off, Gabriel was edging quietly away. He eased out of his chair and gradually closed the distance between himself and the exit. This retreat would have been faster, had he not stopped to replace his book on the shelf where he'd found it. Regrattably, library regulations made no exceptions for situations like this. In the absence of a 'potentially lethal threat' subclause, Gabriel had no choice but to follow standard procedure.

Leo had begun to amuse himself by poking a standing pond. The fish watched the finger curiously and backpedaled when a snap of cold touched their little fish-faces. It wasn't time for winter yet! What was this?

With a sigh, Leo pulled out his ice-covered finger and tugged the cylinder from his digit. The moisture from the air inside slowly froze his new ice cube into a solid, and he began tossing this into the air. Now what to do? He set his hand lightly on the surface of the water, letting a thin film of ice form before giving a little shove. The small boat of ice drifted lazily out, apparently finding some small current or a curious fish that liked the taste of ice as it started to spin and melt. And no one noticed a thing, since there wasn't really anyone around him at that moment. Heck, the courtyard was almost deserted.

My gosh this place was empty in the afternoon. Didn't any of these kids with evening classes skip them? Something was terribly, terribly wrong with these people... Maybe everyone was just in the library.

Leo may or may not have made a lug wrench out of ice. He also may or may not have made two more, and he was most definitely not juggling them in gentle, controlled arcs. That's because he was juggling them poorly. Fortunately, no one was around him so no one was brained by the icy constructs. He watched the door as his boredom reached its peak, noticing that there were some shadows behind the glass. Hey, someone might be coming out! Humanity!

Gabriel stopped dead as soon as he saw Randii. Another Stand user! And worse, one directly blocking the exit. Was she working with the others? Was she here to make sure that nobody escaped? Or was she just some random bystander, with no ill intentions at all? To Gabriel, all of these options seemed equally plausible.

And, er, sorry to bother you with this, but seeing as you're right about maybe not wanting to be public about having a Stand, and it's honestly not very easy at all to disguise that Feast isn't a person in a staged shot, I think I might need a new project for my photography class, so... Randii chuckles a little at Gabriel's location. That was one reason why she dressed herself that way. To see people's surprised reactions to it.

Now, sure, Gabriel's reaction probably wasn't so much her looks as his paranoia and her suddenly being there. But, she didn't know that. And if she did, she didn't really care.

Gabriel didn't hesitate for long. Every unnecessary second spent in this powder keg could prove disastrous. So as soon as Randii opened a route to the exit, he took it. Once safely outside, Gabriel greeted the open air with an emotion which vaguely resembled pleasure. He felt lucky to have escaped in time.

In some ways, Gabriel Blake led a very exciting life. For him, even the most boring days were filled with tension and potential danger.

Dmitri's ears perked up as he heard a noise coming from the direction of the library exit. As interesting as the girls' conversation was he couldn't help but feel rather nosy listening in on them so he took every opportunity to stop doing so when he heard the aforementioned noise, which sounded rather a lot like someone being startled. It was probably that guy who walked out earlier, he looked kind of twitchy the whole time he in was in there. By this point Dmitri had turned to face the exit in his chair with one arm resting on the back of it as a support, supposedly turning helped you hear better in a certain direction. Nothing followed the original sound so he assumed that that was just a stupid rumor.

Still, it might be interesting to see what is going on out there...

After another minute or so he made a decision and rose out of his chair, making sure to tuck it back into place properly, and walked over to a doorway were he could see the exit clearly. He stood there, leaning on the doorframe, and watched the proceedings. Specifically noting the presence of the green-haired girl from before.

The girl's next question gets her blushing furiously, fiddling with a pen.
Um. Maybe. I guess. It, um, it depends, like... what the photos are?

Clearly a Stand User duel is about to erupt! :smalltongue:

"I don't know... Do you, like, paint or anything? We could do something with a mural on a wall, and make it look like you were part of it, then have you coming out into the world... I dunno, probably a stupid idea, though."

Karissa starts to pick at her jacket again, clearly embarrassed and worried.

(A fight between them would be incredibly amusing, honestly...)

Randii watched Gabriel leave with an amused expression.

He seems kinda jumpy. Might be fun to mess with if I see him again. If he was a student, that was likely. Her work was popular with students, and everyday she walked through the campus.

Once Gabriel was gone, she turned back to find Dimitri watching her. Her gaze lingers on him for a moment before she strolls into the library and heads for the fiction section. She might not have been a student, but once inside, nobody would think twice about a young woman reading in the library.

That was rather underwhelming. They'd all just left without any sort of conflict or gossip or.... or anything at all really. Sure the girl from earlier, whom he had assumed was following him for some unknown reason, had glared at him for a moment but she hadn't done or said a thing before going inside. Which presented a problem of his own, he couldn't really go inside himself now without seeming like a stalker, Thanks for that Paranoia, or drawing suspicion for why he had returned so quickly.

There weren't many other options for what he could do, sure he could return an hour or so later inconspicuously but he still needed something to fill the time, so actual human interaction it was. This couldn't end too badly, even with Paranoia's everpresent aura, since that guy seemed ridiculously jumpy. So that was that, Dmitri moved out of the doorway towards the overly-panicked man from earlier as quietly as possible and lightly tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention before speaking "Are you quite alright, sir? I undertand your haste to get outside though, it is a nice day."

Guys, we all know there is something seriously wrong when I'm the one who has to defribrilate a dying game. Get your acts together :smallwink:

And yes, Dmitri did just start a conversation with a comment about the weather. That should give you a decent indication of his social skills.

Aaand two stand users had come outside. Leonardo, quite done being a stick in the mud, stood up.

"And just what do you think you will say to them, mister hicksville?" Now, as useful as Snap was for not getting caught, the stand really was a jerk when it came to social interaction. I'll- "Waltz out there like the dunce you are and get kicked off campus?"

"... You know what? Yes. Yes I will." Having just about enough of these shenanigans, Leo walked towards the two stand users conversing in front of the library. The guy with the freaky thing hovering above him was... interesting. Might want to stay away from that. The other guy just seemed to be on the verge of a freak out, so talking cautiously might be in order. "Howdy." He said once he was close enough. Yup, great way to hide that you're from the deeeeep country. At least there was a Wisconian accent, so that he didn't sound too southern.

As it turned out, this was not a wise thing to do. Gabriel had only just escaped from three dangerous {innocuous} potential enemies {random girls}, who'd surrounded him in a very suspicious manner {stood around in a library}. So when Gabriel felt a tap on the shoulder, he reacted somewhat rashly. To be more specific: He leapt a foot in the air, somehow spun 180 degrees while airborne, then landed in a combat stance, facing Dmitri. It was quite an unusual sight.

"Gah! Who? What? All right? Oh. Yes. I'm quite all right. There's no need for concern. Really."

No, that's honestly really cool... 'cept I don't really paint, but still, that's a great idea!

What just happened?!
Dmitri had already taken a step back when the man had performed his, admittedly quite impressive, maneuver but he was almost wishing he could edge away without seeming rude. He'd almost thought of it as surreal until Paranoia tapped him on the side of his head in a 'I'm still here y'know' sort of way.

Turning his attention back to the easily-startled man, who was apparently a ninja, he replied "Well, I suppose that's good to know then..... Though I do wonder what could possibly have put you on edge like that in the first place, if you don't mind my asking of course?"

Randii was a little disappointed by the lack of anything entertaining from following that one guy in here.

Oh well. Might as well grab a book or two while she was here.

She heads for the fiction section and starts browsing, while Karny stays close at her side. Once she finds one she likes (Ender's Game), she slips off her backpack, opens it, and slides the book in. She didn't even bother to see if anybody was watching her. Sloppy.

Why did I ever assume that this wouldn't happen!?
Dmitri moves away from Gabriel, circling around him so as to get both himself and, more importantly, Paranoia out of his sight. Paranoia was already extending a hand towards the unmoving man now that he had been paralyzed and Dmitri had to bat it away so as to discourage it from making any further moves No. This one isn't for you.

"Ummm... folks?" So apparently the two hadn't heard him say hello. Leo was ever so slightly disappointed. Wasn't college supposed to improve your brain or something? And didn't that include you're hearing? Bother.

"We could still just walk away, you know." And honestly, if Leonardo was going to be ignored, Snap's idea was more than a good option. Ah well, talking to people was over rated anyway. Now, where to lay low for a while... Ah yes, the library! Libraries were great for this kind of thing... after all, how many students just fell asleep while studying in these things? This would be a great place to spend the night...

"PURPLE TENTACLED DEATH CLOUD!"

Gabriel's fist hit its mark about as quickly as could be expected, with minimal random flailing. Dmitri made a move to duck but wasn't quite fast enough and ended up taking the blow to the right side of his face, turning with it to minimize damage, and stepped back. Paranoia took this spare moment to circle round into the space between Gabriel and Dmitri, shooting a menacing glare straight towards Gabriel's, thankfully closed, eyes and some vibrating strangely as its own poor rendition of a warning growl.

Aaaaand with that, Leonardo was just done with these weirdos. I ain't gonna get caught in a random brawl... He thought chillingly. With a "I saw and did nothing" whistle, Leo waltzed off into the library. His pure white stand peered around, looking for anything threatening like to its host.

And Leo being bored and all, does in fact notice this peculiar occurrence. He happened to (unfortunately) be standing in between her and the door now, pointing a finger in her direction and raising an inquisitive eyebrow. "Um... excuse me miss? But, aren't you supposed to sort of... check those out?" the stand host asked, scratching the back of his head in slight confusion. College libraries did work like all the other libraries of the world, right?

From where he stood, Snap wasn't the most visible of stands at the moment. It was only a white nimbus normally, after all, and that was against the backdrop of illumination from the library's doors (which had just thawed out), so when Snap complained "You idiot, she's a stand user! Get out of the way before she sees me!", there really wasn't that much to be concerned with. Paranoid little stand...

At that, she'll try to shove her way past Leo.

"Well, no. I'm just- Whoa!" Leo jumped back, bumping up against the glass of the door as she moved towards him. Frost began to spread on the glass pane once more. "Don't touch, you do not want to touch!" A very simple warning, and the (albeit accidental) demonstration had likely proven the point.
