It says you gain any special qualities of the base creature, what does it mean by this?

special qualities are the Extraordinary , spell like, and supernatural abilities of the creature.

Breath weapons, scent, flight.

So if you make a werewolf then it has scent. If you make a werebear, it has imp grab. If you make a were tiger, it gets rake. I think Lycans can only use animals, but if for instance you could use a magical animal then i believe you could use a blink dog or a displacer beast and the were version would get blink/displacement

basically anything special the animal could have done, there were version could.

A quasilycanthrope retains all the special qualities of the base creature and also gains those described below.

quote form web article. it means you keep any special qualities of the creature you applied the template to.

then you get the damage reduction and disguise self qualities listed.
