My players, stay out.

So, in the next session, the party will be heading into a goblin mine, all of which has been transmuted into an odd crystalline substance. This has also happened to all creatures in the area.
The thing is, I'm not sure what monsters (or well, crystallized versions of them) I should use in the mine. Obviously there will be some goblin workers, and the "boss" is a non-crystallized goblin Sorcerer. But what other monsters would be fitting for the mine? In this case, the classic trope of "digging too deep" is fitting. I want something interesting, monsters that are more than just a natural attack and a bag of HP.

The party is level 9 and consists of a Dungeoncrasher Fighter/Warblade, a Cloistered Cleric and a Daring Outlaw.
Thanks in advance! We're playing this Saturday...

Mineral warrior (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e) might be a template that can help you.

Have you played Magicka (a Paradox videogame)? There is a goblin mine in the game which can give you some nice idea.

You can by exemple design your dungeon with bottomless (or so) ravines which form mesas linked by ignitable or dammaged wood bridges (what i mean (http://imageshack.us/f/11/magicka2011012722181381.png/)).

What particular magical abilities do your party members bring to the table? Rickety wooden structures - while a staple of the trope - are inconsequential at this level assuming appropriate alternate movement rates (Fly, Burrow, Spider Climb), not to mention Feather Fall rings or similar precautions being fairly ubiquitous by this point in the game.

I have my own homebrewed template in use, but thanks. Even though it might have made sense, I intentionally didn't include DR in the template because then the Daring Outlaw and probably the Cleric would have felt far too useless.
Oh yes, I have indeed played Magicka, thanks for reminding me about that
I might use the bridge, but I don't remember what enemies the area had. Was there anything other than goblins?

They actually have very little magical movement. The only flight they have comes from the Cleric, who has the Travel domain, but he obviously only has one or two castings of it per day. The Daring Outlaw has a Ring of Feather Fall, though... I'll have to prepare for him jumping down just for the heck of it.

How about a mine tunnel that the goblins and other denizens avoid that leads to a meenlock or two. They're so creepy and it is always interesting when the local residents have to avoid some part of their dungeon.

How about one of my all-time favorite monsters? (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/darkmantle.htm)

Naturally you'll need to advance/template them to keep up the pace.

I like mixing monsters for fun.

A Destrachen with two darkmantles who hang out with him. They pretty much just make things dark, and let the blindsighting destrachen go to town on the helpless food. If someone small or weak gets separated from the pack they swoop in for some suffocation of oppurtunity.
