Sandpoint is what some refer to as a jewel in the rough, or maybe a barbed blade in hand. Although it is shiny and new it has spots that can cut to the quick if you let it.

The most notable of these unseen dangers in the short history of Sandpoint occurred in the winter of 4702, and are referred to locally as "the late unpleasantness." The people of Sandpoint would prefer to put the unsavory disasters behind them, but five years is not long enough to fully forget these events. Within the course of only a few years, a string of murders by a ruthless killer known as "Chopper" and a great fire which destroyed the iconic chapel and many of the surrounding buildings ravaged the town both physically and emotionally. A grand cathedral has since been built and the people of Sandpoint are finally optimistic about their future.

The Swallowtail Festival is a holiday in honor of the goddess Desna, and is held annually on the first day of autumn. It serves to commemorate a legend in which an avatar of Desna fell to Golarion after a fierce battle with the goddess Lamashtu. She was discovered and nursed back to health by a blind child. To express her thanks, Desna transformed the child into a beautiful, immortal swallowtail butterfly so that he could explore the wonders of the whole world for all eternity

And that is what today is all about. Today is the day of the Swallowtail Festival and the dedication and consecration of the new Sanpoint Cathedral. And all of Sandpoint has come out to celebrate.

As you walk through the streets to where the main part of the festival is being held (before the Cathedral itself) you see all types of vendors and performers. Tents are being set up everywhere there is space and everyone is excited about the games, acts, and food to shortly come.

Some of the games are about to start and you walk through the crowd thoroughfare to watch. Tug-of-War and Log Splitting contest dominate those looking to test their strength, while a log beam set above the ground is set to spin in place and test those who think they have the dexterity to transverse it.

A vendor hands out hot meat pies for everyone to sample and as you eat the palm-sized spicy pastry you watch as grown men try their skill.

Your character walks alone among the crowds so describe why you wished to attend the festival or a game you might want to try your hand at.

Also describe your character so that others can get a feel for what they look like (or add pic).

Traendithas was slightly miffed. He had come to Sandpoint looking for work, but it seemed unlikely that there would be any to be had on a festival day. The tall darkskinned warrior walked through the crowds, his armor clinking as he did so. He brightened up a little when he noticed the contests of strength being played out. Here was a chance to prove himself in the eyes of the townsfolk, something which would surely be remembered in the folllowing days. Yes, he'd compete.
He started taking off his armor, placing it in a neat pile where passerbys wouldn't trip over it, while not so far away he couldn't keep an eye on his gear. He took his helmet off, revealing a rather handsome face, with both hair and beard completely shaven.

When he was naked from the waist and up, he put his gauntlets back on for a better grip, and walked back out in the sun. His muscles rippled as he moved, and his dark skin was shining in the sun. He didn't seem to mind people watching. He walked over to the men looking to stage the Tug-of-War. "So what's a man got to do to get in on this game?" He smiled, showing off a row of white teeth.

Now this. This is my kind of scene.

Thought Eli (http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s461/Stormwaters_RP/ElitheMagusIswearthisisallIcouldfind_zps47720945.j pg) to himself rather indulgently as he strode down the colorful avenue, swallowing a mouthful of cheap meat pie.

On any other day, he might have cut a rakish figure, dressed in his brown duster of fine leather (well, as fine as could be found for the rich sum of a 2 gold pieces), shiny black boots and artfully-rumpled shirt, not to mention the sheathed Aldori dueling blade at his belt. Eli fancied himself a looker too, with his healthy tan (recently acquired) which set off his long black hair and yellow eyes which rested in that oddly delicate way that spoke of an elven forebear. It worked too, as every now and again, he caught a young lady staring from behind a paper swallow-feather fan with evident interest. Much as he'd want some feminine company after the long road, the half elf had rules for these sorts of things.

Establish yourself first before you dillydally.

With a sigh, he left the latest one with a faint wave before striding along with no particular goal in mind... Until he came upon a troupe of street performers going over some blocking practice for the event to come.

Definitely my scene.

Eli had little taste for the more physical contests (unless it was slapstick or broad comedy). Munching on the treat, the half elf took his place among some onlookers, watching intently and trying to place the performance while his fellows called out suggestions and the odd line.

Origenis

"Ah, back in Sandpoint. And how lovely it is during the Festival! See there Adem? This is where the old Cathedral used to be. And let us go buy some of Mr. Cruthers pastries. They are very good when hot."

Origenis walks in steady, measured steps, his luxurious walking staff leaving marks on the ground. The young man is dressed in his finest clothing (he makes sure all his clothing is his finest clothing), in muted purple and scarlet with intricate embroidery. His presence is unmistakable, like an aura or an arrow pointing at him, and Origenis makes sure to take advantage of it. He has a smile for everyone he meets, a greeting, a word, even a twinkle in the eye for the young ladies that go out of their way to fall on him.

But even if that was not enough, Origenis' companion would make him stand out, even the young arcanist himself was as dour as plow horse. A small man dressed in green, looking for all the world like a sprite from a fairy tale, Adem half walks, half flies from place to place. He stares around with the huge grin usually found in small children, he gives flowers to children and mimics to the point of parody various people that catch his fancy. Origenis seems to converse with him, though he does not seem to answer in anything other than laughs and shrill whistles.

Having taken pies for both of them, Origenis puts his back in a nearby log to survey his surroundings. The games were out of the question, because there was a chance to appear ridiculous. His social instinct, honed to a fine edge in Korvosa, was in full swing. What has he missed? Who did what? Who had screamed at who? He surveys the crowd with the eye of a collector.

Origenis wants to see what the important people our doing and catch up to local gossip. He also keeps an eye for any notable new arrivals. If appropriate

This carnival is great Cormac thinks to himself as he munches on a meatpie. He is tall and lean, with a blue cloak around his shoulders and a holy symbol of Erastil around his neck identifies him as a priest. People stare at him oddly because of the blue feathers sprouting from his face, but he hardly notices, as he is used to it.I am very glad I reached Sandpoint in time for this. He wanders around for a bit, taking in all the wonderful and exciting sounds and sights.

Cormac notices the spinning log game and immediately his eyes light up. Now that is my kind of game! he says as he walks towards the spectacle.

Sabi

"This really came together like they said huh? Sabi murmured to herself.

The young woman with vibrant and red hair walked the streets of the festival trying but not quite suppressing her delight at the festivities. She was dressed simply, if colorfully, in red blouse with a green skirt both looking a little worn looking but in serviceable condition. Gold eyes glimmered from between her bangs though if anyone looked her way she took care to hide her gaze. She'd been here in Sandpoint for six months trying to make herself as unnoticeable as possible. Nobody here needed to know she was anything special

Really it had been to just enjoy the quiet life, something rare and precious in her life. Jubrayl Vhiski didn't ask much of her as a friend of "the Family" and she collected decent tips with plenty of food working the tavern. She might have to actually start watching what she ate. After the festival anyways, she decided snagging a meat pie and giving it a bite. Giving it a bite she decided it was too spicy. Well that was easy enough to fix. Moving to the shadows of an alley she chanted a few quick words and felt the whispers of power in her stirr. A few moments later the spiciness was muted to an faint tang.

She didn't know how she had inherited that power, she could barely remember her father and the far land of her birth. It had just appeared one day an even younger girl and orphan on the streets of Riddleport. Her teacher had explained it though, somewhere in her blood was something magical. Sabihah Rahiq late of Qadira, Riddleport, and the Carmelizzia Sczarni was a sorceress, her teacher a Varsisian of the same nature but teacher was putting it strongly for she could only to point out the path. For no one could truly teach a power so innate, Sabi would have to discover it for herself.

That wasn't important today though. Or even for awhile. After the Carmelizzia had been run out of their last town she'd wanted a break and Zeldana had told her about Jubrayl here in Sandpoint. It sounded perfect, and so far really it had been. The festival was just cream on top really, she'd not seen anything like it since that whorehouse production when she was ten. This was far less lewd and even more crowded. Though she didn't feel any particular need to take up one of the games, watching others was reward itself.

Maybe she could sneak off an practice some more magic if she could find a spot out of sight she might liven up the evening with show of her own. Nobody here knew what she could do, better to just be ordinary in every way, but after sitting on her talent and only using it in strict privacy for so long she was afraid she might get rusty. She hardly did anything but let Vizzie in and out of his favorite spot on her thigh these days. She should do something... in a little bit.

For now she just wandered about looking about at the sights and sounds of a town in celebration.

Prestidigitation cast so should be active for awhile.

As you walk about the small town and enjoy the festivities, somewhere up the hill near the new cathedral the swallowtail's have been released. The butterflies take to the sky and fly in large groups down side streets.

With their release you know it is time to make your way to the new church for the ceremony. So along with a huge coward you make your way to the open grounds before the church near the stage that has been set up before it.

Need to work on my map so I wish to give you all the weekend to RP amongst yourselves. The group is pressed together among the throng so I'll leave all that up to you. I will post the map tomorrow night SUN latest.

On the stage set up before the Citadel everyone enjoys a play put on by a bardic troupe. Called "The Harpy's Curse" it is a comedy about a harpy finding a pair of magic boots that she can't get around her clawed feet

As the troupe takes it's last bow Father Zantus makes his way atop the stage.

A sharp retort, like the crack of distant thunder, slices through the excited crowd as the sun’s setting rays paint the western sky. A stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the central podium, where a beaming Father Zantus has taken the stage. He clears his throat, takes a breath to speak, and suddenly a woman’s scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream rises, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises—high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices.

"Goblin's chew and Goblin's bite,
Goblin's cut and Goblin's fight,
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblin's eat and take by force!"

"Goblin's race and Goblin's jump,
Goblin' slash and Goblin's bump,
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblin here and you be dead!"

"Chase the baby, catch the pup,
Bonk the head to shut it up,
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be Goblin's, YOU BE FOOD!"

Suddenly the crowd is moving in a hundred direction as dozens of goblins emerge from hiding.

OOC: No INIT group can go first. For now every square counts a difficult terrain(due to crowd). But you may try an Acrobatics check DC 8 to ignore them and move normally.

Sabi

Sabi had been minding the festivities when the panic broke. Actually just as it was breaking she yelped suddenly. From the middle of her back a small lump pushed itself up against her blouse, it grew and moved up her back toward the loose neck line of the shirt. What emerged was at the head of an black-grey cat that scrambled out to take up a position on the young woman's shoulders and pointed its head in the direction across the square hissing loudly. Sabi's assumed calm demure reserve broke in an angry huff.

"Damn it all Vizzie Ah told you to stay there for the night what do you think you're..." she trailed off and any annoyance at her familiars sudden appearance and how'd she'd explain it fled from her mind at the sight and worse sound of the goblins horrible song, "Nine Hells are those things and what are the doing."

Thinking quickly and looking around the square for a bare moment the girl began moving through the square dodging the crowd going a hundred different directions. Yet she nimble enough to make her way through. She wasn't running away, or at least not yet. That's where all these damn panicking fools would be going. Yet she'd been in enough scrapes in Riddleport to know that running when the crowd was tended to be a bad idea. And so ducking and weaving she made her way down the square sheltering next to a stand while debating her next move. Were there more of them, where were they coming from next? How tough were they?

Well least I can check how stupid they are, she thought after a moment. Vizier had likely blown her cover such as it was back there with his entrance but she couldn't blame the cat. He'd been with her for two years now ever since he was a little kitten her teacher had shown taught her to make a familiar. And besides his heart was in the right place. Maybe some magic would help. With a few simple thoughts Sabi reached into that core of power within her. This was her simplest power to use, no words of actions. Course it would only do any good if those things were pretty dumb. But a quick distraction could buy her time to decide what to do next.

With but a moments concentration looking at the goblins across the square Sabi brought forth four dancing flames around the goblins, spinning wildly and lighting the area around them. Gods only knew what their reaction would be.

Having participated in the contests of strength, Traendithas went back to put his armor on again. Being a little delayed, he lumbered after the crowd on his way to the cathedral.

As the commotion began, he looked around for guards desperately. Finding none, he decided to take action. It was the right thing to do, and who knew, maybe there'd be some coin in it as well, courtesy of the grateful villagers. Attempting to spring into action, he found that it was easier said than done, what with the crowd in panic and all. He attempted to push through the crowd without accidentally knocking anyone over.

Origenis

Origenis has been enjoying the festival greatly so far. Seeing old friends, talking to neighbors now noticeably more greay-haired, dancing gracefully to the ministrels' songs... that was how he had imagined this homecoming festival to be.

And suddenly... chaos. Origenis for a moment tries to see if perhaps some sort of prank is being played. But no. The screams, the song, the noises....

Goblins! Here! In Sandpoint!

A terrible fury overcomes Origenis. This is his home. The goblins will die.

"Adem! To the air! Warn me if anything approaches!"

Adem, frightened and sending Origenis fury quickly rises over the crowd, making passes over the smoke, trying to discern what happens.

Origenis spots the table nearby. This would give him a vantage point. He pushes his way up the table, standing like a thespian on stage. He then notices the goblins, his eyes light by a cold fury. His hand start making circles, pentagrams, runes which flash at the edge of vision. His voice rings in Celestial

"Kerberos, hear my voice. Come fulfill your pact. By my Name and by my Power, I summon thee! Smite my enemies."

In an instant, a pentagram flashes behind the goblins. A dog, with fur of gold and eyes of silver, appears and starts snarling at the goblins.

Startled, Cormac searches to find the source of the commotion, and it becomes apparent when he hears the goblins' song.

The crowd gets is the way for most of you as you move to help. Other goblins can be seen fighting guardsman and a few seem to be trying to climb the nearby homes to get above the chaos of the screaming people. All the while they still sing and attack.

The summoned hound moves quickly forward and bites a goblin while an arrow catches another. The dancing lights don't seem to distract the creatures that look to be so interested in their bloodletting that they hardly notice.

Two goblins use their dogslicers on Origenis's summoned hound, while the third moves through a sea of legs slicing merrily as he moves closer to Traendithas. A deep gash opens in the hound's shoulder and back and the goblin's giggle gleefully as the creature yelps in pain.

Ugh there didn't seem to be a way out of here. This wasn't the only group of the bloodly little things. And they had at least something approaching a brain, not that she had expected her light show to achieve too much, and she left it spinning were summoned forth. Still told her that running off would be a bad idea against these things. Damn that her crossbow was back at Fatman's. Why should she carry the thing afterall.

"Well Vizzie no real way out," Sabi said to the cat still perched on her shoulder, and glad she was to have the cat watch her back. "Oh cripes get that dog back! It can't take the boht"

Sabi didn't like to admit it but she had a soft spot for animals. Even one so obviously summoned by another magic user. Watching the animal hurt decided her. Time to fight, sneaking off might let these things get up to who knows what.

Sabi moved, again deftly weaving through the crowd. She could quite reach the beleaguered mutt just yet but she could get into range to lend a hand with one of her other spells.

"Ved Vulonsos Ensosin Voth Motmahus!"

As she spoke the arcane words of the invocation her fingers danced gracefully in the air finishing with Sabi extending a palm towards the goblin before her. The air before her hand darkening suddenly with black spots. Swirling about they came together forming an inky black sphere. Oil, black as night. Yet almost as soon as it formed the sphere shot forth from Sabi's palm towards the menancing goblin straight ahead. Or rather its, its odd sword.

"That's a poor encore, if I ever seen one."

Eli muttered to himself as the crowd he'd followed to the church grounds after the release of the butterflies (a rite that honestly made his soul soar) began to panic and push like frightened sheep moving into a pen.

The dark-haired half elf couldn't see the source of the racous voice. He wasn't even sure if the town guard was moving towards the disturbance. But what he did know was that some among the crowd were not making themselves easy targets and fighting back (the sudden appearance of dancing ) Brandishing his blade in the press might make things worse.

Time to take this fight to our guests!

With a hand on the hilt of the Aldori dueling blade, Eli thought back to the lessons of stage acrobatics and blocking to try and close in with the leading elements of what he was quite sure were goblins.

And teach them a thing or two about showing manners after a hard-practiced performance.

The crowd finally starts to thin out as people (some chased by goblins) flee the courtyard before the new cathedral. Father Zantus tends to a woman on the stage who has a goblin arrow in her side, while near the far east side one of the tents catches fire. Smoke from near the north of town can also be seen drifting above the roofs of buildings. Just how many goblins are attacking Sandpoint? You wonder as the fighting continues.

Traendithas's bumping of the woman throws him a bit off balance and the goblin before him takes advantage. The small blade slices across the young warrior's thigh and draws an angry red line.

And as the flames die down from the red-haired woman's spell the group finds that all the goblins nearby are down.

But that doesn't mean they're aren't goblins still about. A goblin who has climbed onto a table is busy stuffing fried fish in his pockets, the tails of some wiggling as he moves down the table. You watch as another makes a diving leap from the roof of a shed to try and attack one of the fleeing people from the crowd. The goblin misses badly and breaks it's neck as it land son it's head.

Still more goblins can be seen in the distance down the street trying to block a panicked horse and rider. The small creatures are bowled over like the pins in a game of bowls, most unlikely to get back up.

During this small respite the group gets a chance to catch it's breath and survey their surroundings.

It is an honor and a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I suggest we make it a point to attemt to discern the motives behind this incursion, and I would gladly fight alongside such worthy companions as yourself."

Traendithas looks around, listens, and tries to make out where the fighting is thickest.

"I'm think introductions can wait until after there no more kissing extra ugly dog biters about ya!?" Sabi said at hurried clip, lapsing into Riddleport street slang. "There's a bit too many around for me kitchen them all into pigmeat."

With that Sabi looked around once more and drew the small dagger that had been resting in her belt and gave a few quick swings to test the dagger. She knew well she had little of worth in a short fight, but it would be better then nothing. On her shoulder Vizzie kept looking around

Sabi is fighting defensively (standard not full action) for the moment and will be doing so until I do something else.

If she can do that and look around a Perception roll:

Adem takes and rises a little higher before spinning in a slow circle, as the others converse and watch as goblins and guards continue to fight on the edge of the square.

Then there is a noise like a yelp and everyone looks up to see the odd fairy pointing towards something.

Following the eidolon's finger everyone first sees the plume of smoke and then the fire as a hay wagon burns. A small troupe of goblins dance around it excitedly torches in hand. Then one of them turns to point towards the new cathedral, and the others laugh gleefully and start to sing once more.

Origenis

Origenis assesses the new threat with a quick glance. The night, it seems, was not over and would not be for a while. He again addresses the Celestial Hound

Hound Argos, hear my voice. Attack them!

He then turns to the man introduced as Traendithas

"I can assist you in your efforts. Will you let me?"

With that, Origenis starts chanting and sweeping through the air, where strange glyphs appear for a split second. Traendithas, if he hasn't objected, starts to get bigger and bigger.

Directing the summoned dog to attack the goblin at V3. I think it cannot charge and get there because it is quite afar, so it will probably just move this turn.

"Good show to you all! Now our audience is looking for an encore. And I intend to put on one that'll bring the house down, or my name isn't Eli Errodhen!"

Eli's handsome face face seemed to have locked into a kind of rictus. It was apparent that he wasn't all that used to this kind of fighting, but he put on a good front. The slim half elf kept his curved blade at the ready and began murmuring a spell of his own.

At the newest threat Sabi didn't spare any heartbeats talking about it. She moved across the now emptied square watching what the other were doing for the moment. She and the dog boy had done all the work on the first few, time to let them take the lead. Cripes how she missed her crossbow.

"I'd be glad to have you." Traendithas stood still as the magic took effect. Then, he lumbered towards the goblins full speed with his now-towering form.
"En garde!" he shouted, attempting to turn their attention from their pillaging.

Cormac's arrow passes near the goblins and the warchanter grunts a command. As Traendithas and the summoned hound close in on the goblins they begin to dance around the hay wagon and over to a nearby tent, setting everything ablaze.

If Cormac thought it tough to shot at the creatures before, it just became tougher with the smoke giving some of them concealment from him.

One of the torch wielding goblin's swings it at Argos the Hound and misses terrible as the dog jumps back and away from the blow.

The warchanter stands looking at Traendithas and wags a finger at him. "Naughty! Naughty! Such a serious giant you are! Someone should show you how to laugh, oh yes they should!" she says right before a beam of purplish light hits the enlarged warrior in the chest.

The ogre-sized Traendithas takes and chops the lowly goblin nearly in half. His massive blade splits the creature from shoulder to stomach and it doesn't even have time to scream.

The rest of the men and women stare in slight shock and awe at the blow. But another of the goblins collects itself as it moves in with it's dogslicer in hand. Traendithas doesn't have time to wrench his sword free of the corpse before the little monster gets to him. ooc: missed AoO

The small blade cuts deep into the warriors shin. dmg=5

Argos and the goblin exchange blows as the warchanter steps up cracking her small whip and begins wailing another goblin song.

"You no laugh, you no fun,
You think we will run?
We be goblins, not ermindue [goblin for sh*t]
We be goblins and you be rude!"

The enlarged warrior makes short work of the goblin warrior in front of him and moves quickly towards the singing warchanter.

The little female goblin flicks her whip out at the man but do to his size the thing doesn't wrap even part way around the fighters leg.

With a yelp the warchanter backs away trying desperately to dodge teh bloodstained blade. (Acrobatics [roll0])

Grinning the quick creature takes up refuge behind the last of her pyro-warriors and points a finger at Traendithas. A small sickly yellow light shots straight for the warriors eyes.

Meanwhile the epic battle of hound and goblin continues as both combats seem to want to give no quarter. (Attack [roll1] dmg [roll2])

Seeing the enlarged fighter not attacking the goblin warchanter thinks her spell is successful. She jumps up and down in glee and then targets the celestial hound next.

The great celestial dog shakes it's head and growls deeper in it's throat. The barred teeth cause the goblin fighting him to attack with a shaky hand, missing by a mile.

Eli turned around to see the goblins that the goblins had more or less caught him flat-footed and cursed. For the first time, the half elf found himself wishing he hadn't left his bow back at his simple digs. The half elf usually preferred to fight with the big dueling blade he currently wielded.

Now if the punters aren't cooperative, thought Eli grimly as he moved closer to the stage. We improvise.

Upon reaching the corner of the stage, he could see a pair of his companions wreaking havoc among the troop of goblins, as well as a pair currently not engaged. The half elf chose a few choice words in their own tongue and shouted as hard as he could, intent on luring them closer.
