Hey guys, a friend of mine was thinking of playing DnD for the first time, and knowing him, I showed him the werewolf lord and he really likes the idea of transforming into a dire wolf. Problem is, I know that trying to slap six animal hit dice onto his first character will... probably not end well.

I remember that there was a compilation of homebrewed 'monster classes' that allowed you to play members of those monsters easier than taking their hit dice and level adjustment, but I couldn't find it. Can anyone help out?

Probably thinking of something akin to the Monster Class Progressions that started with... I think Savage Species?

I don't have the book myself. But it might have a werewolf progression in it. I'd THINK that would be something they'd cover. Might be a good direction to look in.

Here's the Savage Species (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040117a) progression.

I know about the savage progression for it, but that still doesn't quite fix the issue of him having six animal hit dice compared to the rest of the party with class levels. I was talking more about a homebrew compilation that was either here or on Minmax that hosted new, at least somewhat balanced 'classes' for them to get the core thematics of that monster race.
