I promised my spouse a cooling pad for her laptop because it kind of (okay really) needs it. Her fan intake is on the bottom of the laptop, and exhaust vents to the right side.

So, I'm asking for people's opinions on cooling pads that they've had personal experience using. Links to product will always be welcome when making a recommendation (or even an "avoid at all costs").

I'm looking for a pad that actually cools the laptop--this means it has fans that will blow cool (ambient temps, anyway) air into the intake. The pad doesn't need to be huge, her laptop is 14-15.6" or thereabout. I'm not looking to break the bank, and I'm not looking to spend more than $40 US ($30ish would be better) though I'd go up to $50 if it's reliable and has longevity (none of this 'it worked for 3 months' business).

For some reason, most of the cooling pads I've seen seem to want to suck the air out of the bottom of the laptop, according to reviews, manufacturer description, or both. As the reviewers of those particular pads have pointed out, this would create the opposite of cooling. Toasting my wife's laptop would not be in my best interests.

I have one of these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coolermaster-Notepal-U3-Cooler-Notebook/dp/B00441LYEW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1366365775&sr=8-2&keywords=cooler+master).

It's relatively quiet and you can place the fans where you need them to be.

My wife has one of these (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-Laptop-Cooling-Pad/16652493). I hate it. She hates it. 1) it tilts your computer i na weird way. 2) the feet that tilt the computer in a weird way aren't stable. 3) the fan is off balance at least 3 times a week even if you don't move the pad, so the fan makes all kinds of racket that can only be stopped by shaking the pad.

I have one of these (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Targus-Chill-Mat-Laptop-Cooling-Stand/15172508). Despite the low ratings on the site, mine has much fewer problems than my wifes. Ocasionally the fan will get off balance, but it often self-corrects after a couple seconds. I've had it since 2009 and it's still working just fine.
