So, I want to learn to draw, but I really don't think I can do it on my own.

Do any of the 'Learn to draw' books really help, or would it be money better spent elsewhere?

Some do. Depends on the quality of the book. Human anatomy books are always useful for proportions.

You can find a selection of Loomis guides out there on the internet. Fun With a Pencil is a recommended book for anyone who is into drawing, and from there you can take a look at some of his anatomy books.

Fun With a Pencil starts off pretty simple, but I've been drawing for years and I still found going through that helpful, since I never went to any art classes. It's not all cartooning stuff, but even when it is it's teaching valuable advice for someone starting out. Remember to draw from reference (Real life is the best reference) when you're practising, and you'll get better in no time.

Ok. Thanks both of you.
