Martial Discipline Preferred/Associated Weapons?

Is this a real mechanic or just fluff? I've read through Tome of Battle but can't find any thing.

There are a few mechanical benefits to the disciplines' associated weapons (particularly with regard to feats), but there's no penalty for not using them and any bonuses you get for using them are clearly spelled out in whatever ability grants the bonus (e.g. a Swordsage's discipline focus ability at first level). So there really isn't much of a point to them besides fluff.

Yes, though to put it differently :smalltongue:: They aren't really a mechanic, but they are an in game designation, that certain feats and class features key off of.
