So, I was talking to my friend about Wizards and Spellbooks, and he asked me; and I quote:

"Why do Wizards always carry spellbooks around? I mean, your a Suberbly awesome and/or Powerful magic user, Why Not Scribe your Spells on a living Creature, like a familar or..something?"

So I was wondering, is there ANYTHING in D&D That would allow you to use a Creature or equvilent as your Spellbook? (Golems and such are allowed)

Sources Allowed: All 3.0, and All 3.5, But No Dragon or Dungeon Magizine.

Not sure about a living creature, as the materials used are supposed to be of high quality, if memory serves. That said, spells should be able to be inscribed anywhere that's accessible and convenient for the spellcaster.

Tattoo spellbooks are a thing, but I don't remember the source. It seems reasonable to tattoo other creatures with your spellbook.

Pathfinder's Witch class does this, in a way. The Witch's familiar learns spells, and the Witch may prepare from them. However, if the familiar dies, the spells are lost.

Pg. 186 of complete arcane.

Once my BBEG wizard turned an entire city into his spell book.

If you can port over PF stuff, the Witch uses a familiar as a spellbook.
