What races in the DnD universe are adept engineers, creators of mechanical devices, gadgets and so on?

I'd expect the gnome to be first on the list, but what other (not necessarily core) races are there?

The example in my head is the Warcraft goblin race, but goblins are savages in most other fiction (including DnD) so that isn't an option.

I know dwarfs are skilled in construction, especially underground systems and complexes, but I'm looking for something more stereotypical.

As a racial stereotype?
Only gnomes come to mind. Dwarves are good builders, but have rarely been portrayed as great inventors.

Given the human race's flexibility and aptitude at anything they wish to be, they'd be on the list. I'd also go with Warforged from Eberron, being as they are mechanical/magitek themselves, it'd make sense for them to be interested in understanding invention. They don't get any special bonuses regarding it, but it could suit the fluff.

Kobolds are presented as being adept at building traps and creating alchemical devices (see Races of the Dragon, and also here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060127a) and here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060420a)).
