View Full Version : [PF] How to calculate DC for Poison obtained by Shapechanging?

So, let's say you're turning into something through one of the various Vermin/Beast/Etc Shape spells and it has the Poison special ability. Do you use the DC listed in its stat block, or do you calculate a new DC based on your Con score?

Really? Nothing?

The DC saves for the creature. Look at them. if they say it's con-based, then, you use your con instead.

The DC for a poison save is 10+half HD (your HD, not the form's HD)+ relevant ability modifier.

So for most poisons is 10+half HD+con mod, since con is usually the relevant ability modifier.

You use your current modified Con score (including any bonuses from the spell) with your current HD to calculate it.

Assuming, of course, that you're using one of the spells that allows poison. :smalltongue:

The save DC should be based on your casting stat. So let's say a wizard uses beast shape III to change into a emperor cobra (or similar). The save DC for the poison would be: 10+5(level 5 spell)+ Int Modifier.

Huh, I missed that in the Transmutation (polymorph) subschool description.

… That is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. :smallsigh: Who writes this nonsense, anyway? It's like they're specifically trying to make casters SADder.

...Wow, that is far better than I anticipated if true. I'm not seeing it here (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Transmutation-Polymorph) though. Wait, is it this?

The DC for any of these abilities equals your DC for the polymorph spell used to change you into that form.

That is a bizarre rule.

Yep, that's the source. And it just … I can't figure out why they'd do that.

Having found some vermin forms with fairly powerful poisons with good DCs like the Giant Hornet (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/vermin/bees-and-wasps/hornet-giant) and the Chain Worm (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/vermin/chain-worm)... my con is only a little lower than those creatures, meaning the DC would be a point or two lower but still quite good were they simply based off my CON.

I suppose this makes it better in the long run, though, as I just need to get more WIS boosting items (druid) to get my DC higher.

Typically, they are Con-based.
