Is there a role play system that doesn't require a game master? I know video games do this but I don't care to play them, not enough dice rolling. And board games don't have enough role play for me to play once or twice a week.
Just a thought, sorry if this isn't the right place to post this question(still figuring out where this all goes).

Thanks, Sam

This should probably go in the Roleplaying forum. This forum is for making things, not playing them.

That said, check out this post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14915023&postcount=6). I think there's a couple others, but their names escape me.

D&D 4e's DMG1 also has a suggestion on how to run dungeons without a designated GM, which could be easily modified for use with other systems. The paragraphs that deal with no-GM gaming are on page 195, but use the random encounter/dungeon mechanics suggested in the pages before it.

Are you looking for a system with no GM because you seek that playstyle, or because no one in your group is able/willing to GMing every week? If the later, you could try rotating the GM duties every session and use an adventure module, so the campaign doesn't veer off too much.

There are a few games out there that are designed to be run without a GM of any king, but most of these are somewhat minimalist and tend not to have long campaigns due to the daunting amount of design work it would take. More common are games where everyone shares the GM's job, but these tend to be less like games and more like collaborative storytelling.

If you're just looking to dungeon crawl and monster mash, there are plenty of random encounter tables and enemy tactics can be determined by the players, although it takes away some of the fun, imo.

If you want an actual game world with story and roleplay, you pretty much need a DM.

If you look at the 7th post in this thread (http://www.story-games.com/forums/discussion/14922/the-big-list-of-gm-less-games/p1), you'll find a list of ~92 GMless games.

Not on that list is a recent game, Eternity (http://www.magpiegames.com/eternity-rpg/eternity-downloads/). So that's ~93.

It's actually a very popular thing.

edit: If you're not sure where to start, I would recommend Fiasco, by Bully Pulpit Games.

The Framework (http://wso.williams.edu/~msulliva/campaigns/ag/framework.html) uses a non-central GM.

I imagine you could run a pre-boxed game with no official DM, and allowing the campaign-book guide the group's decisions as to what NPCs will do and not do.
