For PRC needs ((no base class suggestions)) what is a good 3 level prc dip for a bard?

It really depends on what kind of bard you are and what level you are at. Caster bards will like Sublime Chord but really they should already have 10 levels in that. Lyric Thaumaturge is also not bad. Warchanter is nice for more songy bards.

Lyric Thaumaterge is accessible after 5th level, grants some extra spell slots and spells known off the Wizard/Sorc list. Feat required for it is pretty dang good for bards too. (Complete Mage)

Sublime Chord has a much higher prerequisite list but grants a second set of spells to work with from 4th to 9th level. (4th to 5th for your 3 levels). Need to be 10th level to get to these though. (Complete Arcane)

If you've got an alternate class feature or other method of getting a little Sneak Attack, then Unseen Seer's not bad. (Complete Mage)

If your character's died recently, Eidaloncer from Ghostwalk might work, though be careful with how you handle the setting-specific rules about the class. It's called a "base" class, but you really can't start into it at 1st level without DM fiat.

If you're looking to affect things like Undead or Constructs, Dread Witch from Heroes of Horror and Nightmare Spinner from Complete mage might help. Dirgsinger in Libris Mortis might work, but the lack of 'casting progression makes it less appealing.

Heartfire Fanner(Dragon #314), Lyric Thaumaturge(Complete Mage), Virtuoso(Complete Adventurer), Sublime Chord(Complete Arcane) can all work, though with Sublime Chord you only want 2 levels of the class itself if you can hack it. These are all only able to be entered at 8th level or higher though, IIRC, as opposed to the more standard 6th level entry.

Stormsinger from Frostburn can be interesting.

Troubadour of Stars. Only half-caster progression, and on even levels, but some nice class features (access to spells as though an Eladrin, ability to interfere with casting by evil creatures). Plus Starmantle 1/day.

All of the above, but some more information would be useful.

What is the rest of your build, i.e. why just 3 levels ?

What is the focus of your character ? Fightery ? Castery ? Skilly ?

If it's a melee bard, Warblade, with Song of the White Raven.
