Does anyone know any good fanfics for The Order of the Stick? Or where I can find them? I already checked fanfiction.net, but the list is unbelievably small, and a lot of the stories suck.

a lot of the stories suck.

...This is generally considered pretty much the defining characteristic of fanfiction, is it not?

Anyway, I don't know where else you would find it - while OOTS is very popular as webcomics go, I don't know if any webcomic can ever develop the sort of massive, prolific fanbase that even relatively obscure or unpopular TV series and the like do. The "fancomics" section on the GITP forums is comics done in Rich's style, not OOTS fanfiction comics (I think the former are a more interesting idea anyway).

Archive of Our Own has some fics. http://archiveofourown.org/tags/The%20Order%20of%20the%20Stick/works Though less than fifty, and I haven't read them. But in general, Ao3 has better quality than FFnet.

I'll second that.

Thanks, Mary Leathert!

EDIT: Cool! This comment upgraded me to Halfling!

OOTS just has very little fan-produced stuff in general, it's annoying. For non-stick fanart there's like literally four or something active artists (myself included) and fanfic...you get some from time to time.

But yeah, look on ao3 definitely - some of it is really good. V and Kyrie fanfics asdf. There was a lot of cracky fanfiction, including one super-epic V/Redcloak saga with complicated family trees and Stockholm Syndrome etc. but I'm not sure if it's archived anywhere.

Why would anyone want non-stick fanart? A good chunk of the comic's charm, at least as far as I'm concerned, is its style.

It's not as though you can't find OOTS's style charming but also be interested in seeing a different take on the same characters in fanart.

It's really no different than when people stick-ify characters from other media here. That's usually not meant as a disparagement of the style the characters started out with, it's just considered by some people a fun thing to do -- try to capture the "essence" of the character in a different form. Also different people have different takes on those same characters, so they emphasize different things and use different methods and such, which can be neat if you're the kind of person who is interested in seeing lots of variations on a similar theme.

Granted, there's not too much OOTS art that I personally have liked a whole lot, although there are certainly some pieces I consider good, but that's more a function of its scarcity. In other fandoms you could drown in fanart and it's a lot easier to find a lot of varied and interesting stuff.

But yes, I recall that series of which you speak, and actually came here to suggest it! Water-smurf (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1213325/Water-smurf) is the author, and the series we're talking about starts with "In the Arms of Morpheus," the first in the Oneiroi Series. Sadly, I don't think she ever finished the series... though there are several endings published.

Hey, the quote I used said "a lot", not "all". I don't think many people would dispute either that the majority of fanfiction is not very good or that there is some good fanfiction out there.

(Although really, it was just a snarky comment.)

The question isn't whether most fanfiction is crap. That's beyond dispute. The question is whether the proportion concerned with a given topic falls above or below Sturgeon's threshold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon's_Law).

I found her work and read it several months ago. Of course, found it unfinished. Supposedly, but not in reality it was moved to another site. I put a shout out to her on the media discussion board, but no reply.

Before reading this thread I had never considered whether or not someone had created Tsukiko/Xykon fanfic. Thor's beard...

Fun fact: There is not a single Tsukiko/Xykon fanfic in http://archiveofourown.org or fanfiction.net. Redcloak/Xykon is the most popular Xykon pairing. :smalltongue:

Can people make OotS fanart? I remember there was some kind of legal or board rules issue which killed the (incredibly awesome) OotS Manga a while back. It'd be weird if that's not kosher but stick figure art and text gets a pass.

You may have been being sarcastic, but as the person who started those (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144143) things (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141065) I (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138468) can't (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136627) help (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133747) but (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129876) deliver (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125046).... and theone that began the saga (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125046).

Man, I was so unfunny back then... :smallsigh:

I can't talk legally (since legal advice is against the rules), but I know I've seen it before without it getting cracked down on. In the crack pairings thread, ironically, is one example (though the threads got shut down, it was for very different reasons).
