Relevant spell: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/f/fire-of-vengeance

If a Paladin casts this spell and then goes to sleep, next day he can prepare new spells, and the effect of Fire of Vengeance will still be active right? If not, this is a pretty worthless spell.

Smite expends when resting, so the spell does too.

"The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability." (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/paladin#TOC-Smite-Evil-Su-)

Its a swift action, but still seems pretty weak. By the time a paladin is casting level 4 spells 3d8 fire isn't going to scare anything worth smiting enough to make them ignore the wizard.

You don't need to have a Smite active before you cast the spell. You can cast the spell. Then the next smite you activate and then attack with, that target is marked.

Since no Smite ends when you go to bed, in theory the spell lasts...until the next time one of your Smite ends, which could be a long time if you choose not to smite anyone?

Since when do you need to rest? If Divine Casters work as they used to, you can just cast a spell to remove the fatigue and be fine.

Oh, I see. If there is no smite active, I guess it keep going until you smite someone, then ends with their death/smite expiration. Makes it slightly better, but still not good. Seems like you have better options for your very limited slots.

As a paladin, my slots are very limited. I'd rather just sleep anyways.

Do you guys think this spell would be balanced if the damage were changed to untyped and triggers each time the target attacks someone but the paladin?

Be worth memorizing on a normal day that way.

It'd be worth considering, at least. Currently it's just pointless; if you want Swift damage you can use Forceful Strike (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/f/forceful-strike) or Resounding Blow (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/r/resounding-blow) (Bonus- neither of these require you to expend a Smite!)

hmm.. I'd probably just turn it into Fire of Judgement (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/f/fire-of-judgment) with more damage. That one looks like a pretty functional spell, thanks to having an initial ping hit and an actual duration. Maybe make it SR: No for the 4th level version too.

Isn't there a Mercy for removing fatigue at level 3?

Isn't there a Mercy for removing fatigue at level 3?I have not chosen it yet. And also, it'd only remove the fatigue for one hour anyways.
