Recently in my games of shadowrun I've been coming across a dilemma repeatedly. My playlist for mood music is rather lacking for any runs, firefights, infiltrations, etc. I'd love to be able to put on some type of music to put me in the right mindset for meeting the Johnson, or when things go south on a run. But I am having some trouble digging up tunes for the occasion. Gitp goers, do you have anything you listen to when playing shadowrun that you'd care to share?

How about all the music from Shadowrun on the SNES, remixed nicely?

Hmm, I really like the gunfight track. I can't say I'm that fond of the rest of the tracks. Would make me feel more like I was playing river city ransom than shadowrun. Thanks for the link Alejandro.

General cyberpunk music... Chemlab, Daft Punk, Ed Rush & Optical, The Future Sound of London, Haujobb, Information Society, KMFDM, Massive Attack, Noisia, NWA, Rage Against the Machine, Skinny Puppy, Sonic Youth, Velvet Acid Christ. Can't really pick out specific gunfight/infiltration tracks, though.

The Blade Runner soundtrack
Ghost in the Shell soundtrack

Basically, find any cyperpunk-esque movie and use the music from it. If the players know the music, so much the better.

The Blade Runner soundtrack mostly has two kinds of songs, though: ones with Harrison Ford voiceovers and songs that don't actually sound cyberpunk at all, and certainly don't fit any kind of action scenes.

My playlist for Shadowrun has music from The Matrix, Tron Legacy, Cowboy Bebop, and Final Fantasy 7.

I tend to like a lot of punk and metal music, with a bit of goth/techno. My ex heavily biased my punk towards old Dropkick Murphys and OP Ivy, while my metal tends towards the Viking (Amon Amarth and Tyr).

Wow that's great.

Especially like the matrix and the morgue soundtracks.

I can't believe I forgot...

Billy Idol's Cyberpunk (it's very 1980s cyberpunk, and a must for CP2020, but works for Shadowrun)

Sigue Sigue Sputnik

Wow, greater amount of response than I had hoped. Thank you all very much for sharing. I'll go over them all tonight if I can and see if I have a playlist by game night tomorrow. To youtube!

It really depends on what sort of mood you are going for.

For rainy-Seattle streets and investigations before the run, I prefer things like the night city level soundtracks from Halo 3:ODST, and other noir-style listings (heavy sax and slinky clarinet). The Deus Ex soundtracks have also joined this list recently, as well as the Inception soundtrack.

For action scenes, Daft Punk, especially Tron Legacy-style with heavy bass and rhythm feature prominently, as well as more generic modern day action movie soundtracks.

Oddly enough, the Matrix's score is very natural and atmospheric, as opposed to the more tech-sounding of the rest. More ambient piano and strings, subtle tones that almost put you to sleep. It seems to work, dunno why :smallconfused:

Headhunter by Front 242 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BFtvw2XlyA) is always great for some corporate headhunting.

If you want to look over to reddit, there is /r/cyberpunk_music...

Everytime I think "Shadowrun music i hear "Original Bedroom Rockers" by Kruder & Dorfmeister and "Cowgirl" by Underworld in my head.

Try some electro-pop-goth stuff. Austra (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgkeUDSDyI0) or Trust (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuiKeaqERTU), two linked Toronto bands, they share a drummer, spring immediately to mind for me. Trust more so than Austra.

I'm afraid I deleted my SR playlist when I ended the game, but off the top of my head:

-Daft Punk.
-Chemical Brothers.
-The Matrix and Matrix Reloaded (music based on, not the OSTs).
-The Fight Club OST.
-Sound Garden.
-Ghost in the Shell (nearly all OSTs).

My group doesn't generally use a soundtrack, but when prepping the materials the soundtrack from the game Deus Ex: Human Revolution sets the mood for me:
