View Full Version : What does Craft (flesh sculpting) do?

The Zern monster (Monster Manual IV p.195) has "Craft (flesh sculpting)" as a skill. Since the race likes to experiment on other races I assume that's what that is for, my question is if there are any specific rules on how to use this skill? Like, what can it actually do? Assuming the proper tools and facilities, could a Zern character, for example, turn a captured human into a Zern Blade Thrall (same book, right under the Zern entry) with a Craft (flesh sculpting) check? What would be the DC? What else can a Zern turn things into?

I asked this question in the "Simple rules question" thread and according to the good people there there is no RAW answer, so I guess this thread is more to brainstorm how the skill should work.

Plastic surgery to grant a bonus to disguise checks?
The capacity to make very fancy beef tartare?
Taxidermy?
Mundane alter self? Hey another factotum trick! Craft yourself some templates/special abilities! >.> probably not a good idea as I've come up with at least a few nefarious uses... Karsite up the npc archmage...

I would assume that it's purely an artistic skill. Of course, it's an art form which very few non-Zern appreciate.

Quinessential Drow has an entire chapter of Fleshcrafting, the DCs, what you can do with it, costs, the whole nine yards.

Want to add extra limbs to your slaves? Go right ahead.

my group uses Comeliness as a stat...
we would allow Com. to be raised/lowered with such a Skill...
BUT, beware of what you ask for, as what is attractive to one race may not be attractive to others...

“Not to suck up Drink; that is the Law. Are we not Men?

“Not to eat Fish or Flesh; that is the Law. Are we not Men?

“Not to claw the Bark of Trees; that is the Law. Are we not Men?

“Not to chase other Men; that is the Law. Are we not Men?”

No, that's when an owl and a bear love each other very much...

Craft (disturbing mental image)

What about when a wizard and boredom love each other very much?

Demilich, for one
Ridiculous funerary structures, for another

Though Wizards do get all craft skills.
So a pre-epic wizard trying to mimic the origin of species spell...

Sweet, thanks! This little bit of info lead me to this very helpful site (http://www.purpleduckgames.com/qdrow8). Even though it's technically Craft (flesh) rather than Craft (flesh crafting) I'm pretty sure they're close enough to call them the same thing =)
