Hey guys,

In Sleet storm (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/sleetStorm.htm) spell it says "A creature can walk within or through the area of sleet at half normal speed with a DC 10 Balance check. Failure means it can’t move in that round, while failure by 5 or more means it falls (see the Balance skill for details)."

How do you guys think this would affect a party in a boat? When Sleet Storm is cast ona boat? I think some impediment is in order, but what sort of? Hmm? Hec, would the water freeze? That would be a masive LOL.

In our world, sleet happens over water all the time without it freezing.

I would say that it depends on the boat. Small boats like be very hard to move and / or filling with ice and tipping.

Medium boats (barges, small junks) would likely slow and people would risk being knocked off the side. Sails would be damaged and ropes broken.

Larger ships would mostly ignore the effects except for sail damage.

Cackling DM.

This may be first situation my PCs will get in trouble.
