I've been seeing ambush drake mentioned quite a bit here lately, usually in the context of PCs but all I could find about it was a LA - monster. What am I missing here?

They are some of the smallest adult sized dragons that can be used to craft armor without invoking the ire of a mommy or daddy?

Which, aside from being kind of unique in that it lets you be a Dragon, it's also pretty good, as far as official melee classes go. It's d12 hit dice, all good saves, full BAB, 6+ skill points, you get a few immunities, spell resistance, flight, and two special attacks that target two different saves. In 7 levels.

Compare to a 7th level Monk or Fighter.
