I've asked about sci fi RPGs in the past, but never found what I'm looking for. Specifically, I would like:

Something free, available off of the internet
Something that can easily be adapted for a homebrew setting
Something that includes options for multiple modules, such as space combat, psionics, etc.

Is there anything like that available?

GURPS Lite (http://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=SJG31-0004) is an option. It's not specifically Sci-fi, but it's a universal system, so, it's always an option.

I don't like GURPS, but, for what you're asking for, there's not much else I can think of.

Well, there's FATE Core, a generic, rules-light system easily adapted to just about everything with some refluffing. The PDF should be coming out this month.

There's also Hulks & Horrors. It's an AD&D clone which fits your specifications totally, but it's an AD&D clone, with everything that entails. You can find the free version on DrivethruRPG.

I looked at FATE, but I don't really think its what I'm looking for. Its a bit too narrative; I'd like something more on the gaming end of the spectrum.

d6 Space? It's free on RPGnet, along with a whole bunch of other d6 systems and expansion books. I think it was adapted from an old Star Wars system.

Stars Without Number (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/86467/Stars-Without-Number%3A-Free-Edition?manufacturers_id=3482) is free and fairly easy to mold into your own vision since it's based on BECMI. Supposedly, it's very, very good.

Also, an oldie, but a goodie (and I can't believe I forgot this in my initial response): Star Frontiers (http://starfrontiersman.com/downloads/remastered). Yes, it's legitimately free.

Eclipse Phase (www.eclipsephase.com) is a fantastic and completely free RPG, though if you enjoy the game i recommend buying the books as they are quite pretty and it will help support the company.
