So at the game shop. With Adam(the younger player) and Zack(the older player). Adam mentions that he never quite seems to have ''as much'' fun as us older players do playing the game. When Adam talks about the fight with the lich, it's mostly mechanical. What abilities and such did he do to do what. Zack on the other hand much more tells a story, with very little mechanics.

Both adventures where the same: destroy the evil lich in the graveyard outside of town. So what made them so different? And in comparing the games, I found a difference: The Knockdown.

Everyone knows The Knockdown. It's only used for just about all action type plots. Rocky, for example. It's simple enough: for the victory at the end to fell good and meaningful, you need to have the hero almost loose, but then get up and win.

And that is when it struck me. 3/4 E has really lost that idea. In 3/4 E a character will always stay at ''close to 100%'' at all times. They will never get The Knockdown. But without the knockdown, there can be no build back up. And this makes things bland.

So when Adam's group fought the lich, it was just ''walk into the room and use your character abilities and such'', while Zack's group was 80% dead and used up and had to use desperate tactics.
