so, here's my dillemma.

i need a good, low cr demonic footsoldier for my players to wade into legions of.

i want moderate-low armour class
moderate-high attack, high damage.
little to no special abilities
cr of no greater than 1

can anyone direct me to (or if you are feeling generous/inspired, homebrew) such as beast

thanking you all in advance:smallbiggrin:

Refluff an orc/goblin/kobold with claws and/or a bite + the demon traits and call it a day?

Though this has inspired me to work on my current overly ambitious project and make some mooky outsiders again.

Well, after a few minutes of quick searching in various sourcebooks, I think I may have found something that would work with just a little bit of refluffing.

The Lashemoi (A subtype of Ushemoi) in Monster Manual V fits all your criteria, in an admittedly odd fashion.

They're CR1, and start with 12 AC, 2 claw attacks at +4/1d4+1 each (pretty good for CR1).

They have a penalty versus fear effects, and a special (Ex) ability that gives them a bonus to attack/damage/AC every time they take damage.

They're not demons, but they have a nice, demonic feel to them and would make excellent foot soldiers, so long as the enemy doesn't bring fear effects to bear on them.

Hope that helped.

Lemures are outsiders and demonic, but damage is low as they use claws.

Perhaps give them greatswords?

Give them better weapons though.

These guys are pretty damaging when you count up bleed effect. Just make them foot soldiers: https://sites.google.com/site/pathfinderogc/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/elemental/quasi-elemental-obsidian/obsidian-quasi-elemental-small

Ok, here's a quick design build (you can decide name and fluff for yourself; note that it's 4-armed.):
20 ft speed
AC 11 (10 base, -1 DEX, 2 natural armor), 11 flat-footed, 9 touch
-Medium outsider (Chaotic, Extraplanar, evil)
1 HD, 1d8-1 HP (3 average)

Attacks: Bite +0 1d4+1 , 4 Claws +5 1d4+3
STR 16, DEX 8, CON 8, INT 4, WIS 6, CHA 6
Feats: Weapon focus (claw)
Immune to electricity and poison, resistance acid 10, cold 10, fire 10, telepathy.
4 ranks each in Spot, Listen, Climb, Swim, Jump
Saves: Fort +1, Reflex +1, Will +0.
Special attacks: Frenzy

Frenzy: Can, as a full-round action, make 12 claw attacks, each at a randomly selected target in range (including allies and itself, but it gets +5 AC against its own attacks.) The attacks are made in order; if it kills itself, no more attacks are made.

CR probably 1/2.

Tactics: These are the lowest foot soldiers, without even DR. They pretty much charge at enemies, using Frenzy whenever the majority of possible targets are enemies or there is a lightly armored/unarmored target in range.

Be warned that due to their high attack and damage (which you did request) and the Frenzy ability, they'll be somewhat volatile, and thus more of a danger to kill a PC through sheer chance than their CR would indicate; at mid-lower levels, players would be well advised to consider fighting defensively (or using Combat Expertise if they have it) to reduce the danger.

I promise you, I could not kill my players with a cr 10 encounter (that they brought on themselves),l when they were 3rd level., now they are fifth, I don't think it sol be a problem

If you can find the Diablo II books: To Hell and Back (http://www.amazon.com/Diablo-II-Dungeons-Dragons-Accessory/dp/0786918314/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1369164788&sr=1-1&keywords=Diablo+II+to+hell+and+back) and Diablerie (http://www.amazon.com/Diablo-II-Diablerie-Dungeons-Dragons/dp/0786917601), there are plenty of low CR demons to be had. The books are 3.0 though, so you'd have to do minimal conversion.

Honestly though, I think you'd be fine using something like the Fiendish (http://dndsrd.net/monstersEtoF.html#fiendish-creature) template on a Hobgoblin (http://dndsrd.net/monstersHtoI.html#hobgoblin) or something and calling it a day. You could easily strip their armor and give them better weapons.

This - I was going to say just make human warriors and describe them as something much more sinister

Give them the right Shape Soulmeld or Martial Study feats and they'll be legitimately demonic and stuff.

Abyssal Maws & Abyssal Skulkers (MM2) are CR2. They could maybe be de-advanced. Perhaps via the Young Creature minitemplate from Pathfinder?

It sounds like these are made to form crowds and die by the tens to hundreds, ( as in low-CR enemies challenging high-CR players) so I used a fiendish (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/SRD:Fiendish_Creature) (CR+0) with this orc (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Races_of_War_(3.5e_Sourcebook)/Playing_Unusual_Races#Orc) and the tome monk (http://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Monk,_Tome_(3.5e_Class)#Monk). Assuming stats of 10/11.

If you actually need low-CR enemies, this is probably suboptimal.

Basics
Str 15 Dex 10 Con 11 Int 8 Wis 9 Cha 8
HP: 8
Init: +1
BAB: +1
AC: 15 (14 flat-footed, 15 touch)
Attack: slam +3, d10+3
Special Qualities: Cold and Fire Resist 5, SR 6
Special Attacks: All of these get smite good 1/day, letting them do d10+4 instead of d10+3 (big whoop). But they also get one of the following:
Attacks ignore hardness and DR
Attacks force Fort save DC 9 or stun
Gain blindsense to sight range and scent
Any given creature only gets one of these abilities, and having one prevents them from using swift actions.

These are good against high-level characters in droves because blindsense and scent stop stealth characters, ignoring hardness/DR prevents the best tanking abilities (making the minions more relevant), and if you really need to gang up on someone, you can throw stun minions at them until they roll a 1.
