HELLO! QUESTION!

LEVIATHAN HUNTER!!!

They are only good against huge monsters, not even large or other size.

Does this mean it needs to be tailored towards more then dungeon crawls?

Basically. It has the same weaknesses as say, Rangers. Rangers only get good if you end up fighting your Favored Enemies all the time, if you're not? Well, then you might as well have just gone Barbarian or Warblade or Fighter. Similarly with Leviathan Hunters.

It's not a TERRIBLE class. But it's bonuses are really only geared towards campaigns where it shines. If your entire campaign is "We're going to go kill Dragons" every adventure, it becomes much better than if you have a more normal split in enemy type.

The plus side to the class is it's Trophy ability. Any Huge or larger creature can be turned into a Trophy for relatively cheap. And it's bonus to AC and Saving Throws is a Competence Bonus, which is a somewhat underused Bonus type, which makes it easier to stack wit things.

Fell the Leviathan isn't bad. Fear immunity is something that, by fifth level of Leviathan Hunter you probably don't care that much about. Clever Wrestling is just one of those "Huh... nice" bonuses. When it helps you, it helps you. But otherwise you probably don't even pay attention to it.

Actually, Leviathan Hunter has an interesting niche. It gives Clever Wrestling without meeting prereqs, which allows you to boost your size without losing the feat. This allows someone to enter Reaping Mauler and still benefit from Enlarge Person, etc.

This is actually worth exploring, though Reaping Mauler isn't too great.
