View Full Version : A quick ToB idea

I was skimming through yet another argument about "is the Tome of Battle" magic just now, and the most valid complaint, as usual, is the idea of readying maneuvers being "too much like preparing spells." But this time, I had an idea.

What if we ditch the whole idea of readied maneuvers? Instead, you can only use a maneuver if you're in a stance of the same school.

As far as I can tell, you'd need to make two minor rules changes:

At first level, an initiator learns one stance from each discipline he has access to. He learns new stances at higher levels as normal.
The Martial Stance feat has no prerequisite, but Martial Study requires one Martial Stance known.

This is mostly similar to the ideas being bandied about in De-Vancianing ToB, and for the same reason. Add your voice? :3

Then there is the problem of maneuver spamming. Adding the clause "Once a maneuver has been initiated it may not be initiated again for 1 round." might solve that.
