I'm looking at Familiar Spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/familiar-spell-metamagic), and I'm a bit confused. Is this taken by the familiar, or its master?

Related, does anyone have any recommendations for feats for a familiar? It'll probably be a Mephit, if that helps.

Also, do familiars gain a feat at every odd character level you have? It seems like they do, but I'm unsure.

Feat is taken by the master, but at +3 spell levels it hardly seems worth it when the familiar can already deliver touch spells.

What type of Mephit?

I'm not sure, actually. Choosing among them is hard, although I like the Air (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/mephit/mephit-air), Dust (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/mephit/mephit-dust), Smoke (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/mephit/mephit-smoke), and Salt (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/outsiders/mephit/mephit-salt) Mephits.

This (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/monster-feats/sow-terror-monster) could be fun if you want to stack fear effects or you just enjoy creeping people out.

If you get one with a fly speed, Flyby Attack might be useful when delivering spells.

If all else fails and you just want to squeeze the most out of their abilities early on, there's always Ability Focus and Empower Spell-like Ability, where applicable.

Familiars don't actually gain hit dice or feats as you level up, however. They're just treated as having HD equal to yours for purposes like the Sleep spell for example. You might talk your DM into letting you replace it's standard feats though cause they're not so great either.

Ah, fudge. In good news, I can Shapechange my Familiar.

Does Flyby Attack let you hit-and-run?

Yup, that's exactly what it's for. Attacks of opportunity still apply however unless it can make the Acrobatics check.

If it's using my Acrobatics mod, it will escape pretty much all the time.

If I have Reach Spell, can I modify touch spells delivered by my familiar with Reach Spell?
