Previous thread fell off the face of the forums while I was in depressed mode >.< and sadly it's now too old to resurrect since it'd count as a necropost. So; now that I'm hitting the art again, I decided to make another thread to show off a couple recent pieces I'm relatively happy with, and hopefully add more to that count.

Also you can find my art at my DA page if you're curious about previous pieces - the DA page is in my sig. < . .>m

Without further ado -

Yumi as drawn for an Exalted campaign:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/ExaltedYumi2_zpsf2edfa50.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/ExaltedYumi2_zpsf2edfa50.jpg.html)

Not my best work ever or anything, but there are some features of this piece that I really liked. I may do a third revision as Domochevsky has suggested, but we'll see as I'm (for once) backlogged on arts to do <@.@> (Comes with having a campaign of my own to worry about I guess!)

Joy Buzzer as drawn for a Mutants and Masterminds campaign I hope to join:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/JoyBuzzer_zpsfb61276f.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/JoyBuzzer_zpsfb61276f.jpg.html)

These are just the flats, but I really like how it's come out in terms of line art; and the simple colors don't hurt anything so I really wanted to show it off as it's closer to what I should be putting out on a regular basis. It's nothing eye-popping, but it's "OK"; which is pretty good for me! Hopefully will do the shading for this one tomorrow.

So, a few days ago I discovered the song "This is Halloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas <@_@> Today I decided to draw a monster based on the description in part of the song; I may do that for each critter as I'm sort of planning a Summoner based around them for Pathfinder.

Here's the flat colors for the first -

I am the creature under your bed,
teeth grown sharp and eyes glowing red

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/ThisisHalloweenUndertheBedFlats_zps6f5db0c3.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/ThisisHalloweenUndertheBedFlats_zps6f5db0c3.jpg.ht ml)

Hoping to do the shades for this and Joy Buzzer later today/early tomorrow.

I'm surprisingly happy with this. I've never drawn a monster before, so having it turn out pretty decent has made me ecstatic <^_^> just have to hope I can pull off the shades to really make it pop.

Don't forget to make the eyes glowing, though. :smallwink:
(Bright red should do it, possibly also with a glow layer on top if you wanna get fancy.)

Yeah <^o^> when I do shades the eyes are going to be quite bright. Right now it was just a matter of getting the flats banged out while I had the energy. (Rare for me to take something from nonexistent all the way to flat colors in one sitting!)

"I am the one hiding under your bed,

Will do Joy Buzzer's shades next < ._.> Really happy how this one turned out though.

Next up after Joy Buzzer will be the one under the stairs >_>

Did inks for the next piece. Been unhappy with where my Joy Buzzer piece has been going, so it's on the backburner.

fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair

Colors for that one will come later, I need a bit of a break hehe <@_@>

Colors for The One Under the Stairs:

"I am the one hiding under your stairs,
fingers like snakes and spiders in my hair"

Next will be The Clown with the Tear-Away Face >_> looking forward to it.

Just finished up The Clown With The Tear-Away Face:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/ThisIsHalloweenClownWithTheTearawayFace_zps60096b5 4.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/ThisIsHalloweenClownWithTheTearawayFace_zps60096b5 4.jpg.html)

"I am the clown with the tear-away face,
here in a flash and gone without a trace"

---

I have mixed feelings with this one. There's a lot I like about it, but I could not for the life of me get the shades on the contours of the tear-away face to look right, so I left them mostly off, which lends it a much more flat look than I wanted.

I also wanted to have her physically ripping the face away, but that didn't happen because I couldn't get the hands to look right after many, may attempts. Going to have to do some hand practice soon I think.

That said: I like the general idea I had. Originally this character was going to look a lot like the Clown With the Tear Away Face from The Nightmare Before Christmas - then when I sat down to draw she came out rather well, different, which I like.

So it's a mixed bag.

Onward to The Who When You Call Who's There < . .>/

Taking a break from monsters to work on a Steampunk avatar; so here's my OC Yumi in a vaguely Victorian look:

It turned out well as an avie. Good job.
... do you do requests? Need a pair of pictures for the same character (shapeshifter).
And finally, if you're the OP of the thread you can necro it if you want, I think. A heads up for if you let another thread drop for a while.

I've not really done requests before, but there's no reason I couldn't give it a whirl! <^-^> In fact I'd be happy to. Just let me know what you're wanting and I'll do my absolute best.

Eldest

First picture would be her in human form, when she's a human paladin, female, with a greatsword and in plate armor. Medium length blond hair, she tries to hit most of the stereotypical paladin looks while being female. She's actually a succubus, which can't show on the first picture, since none of the other players know about this. :smallwink: But that would be the second picture, no idea what she'd look like in that one yet, though. Will get back to you, if you want to do that one.

It is indeed precisely that <^-^>

The very short version (I don't want to give away too much since Asteron is in the campaign this is for >_>) is that it's the symbol of a cult that's been making a huge amount of trouble for the city the players are in. My thoughts on this:
http://wildwestscifi.net/Misc/EldestPaladinInks_Edited.png

Pretty decent overall, but the arms/hands need length/size matching, more mass and the sword could stand to sit on her shoulder, not free-float.

I like it! Dunno what the star-things are, but that's about it.
Also, would you be able to add some sort of flower to the cloth, or perhaps add a talberd with one? Either a rose or a dawnflower, symbols of two of her gods.

mistformsquirrl
2013-06-13, 05:30 PM
Glad you like it Eldest <^_^> those stars are elbow guards (and joints between the plates at the elbows) - if you could see her knees, there'd be one on each knee as well. I can most definitely add flowers!

@Domochevsky - Very very useful, thank you. I'm going to rework some of the underlying sketch and re-ink things I think. My anatomy drives me crazy* - so it helps a great deal having it laid out where things aren't coming out right and how to fix them. Big big thank you!

Thank you very much, then!

Spoilered for being really, really, long:

Person #1 is Nycca, a rather small bat-fey; she's mostly humanoid, with longish silvery hair, and a large (comparatively, at least) pair of bat wings, who usually wears a pair of tinted goggles due to her eyes being extremely light-sensitive.

Person #2 is Talina, a large (about 6'0") human mage; she's got brown hair, cut short, and often somewhat messy, dark purple eyes, and generally carries a battered leather messenger bag.

Both are fairly pale, and would probably be wearing dark clothing; jeans and a t-shirt for Nycca, with either a black and purple mage's robe or something similar to Nycca's clothes for Talina.

Also, for expressions and such, the two are girlfriends, and quite close at that.

If possible, I'd prefer Nycca to be in Talina's lap on a couch; if it helps with the scenery, they're living in an abandoned motel that they've cleaned up and gotten water and such going in again, and their furniture is likely scavenged.

I use a program called ArtRage these days, it's a little unintuitive, but it has some features I really like. That said, I used to use GIMP a lot, and that worked quite well for years. < . .> I'm tempted to try Sai, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Third iteration of the catboy - this time with more involved colors! I'll probably go back and sharpen them up some tomorrow as I'm quite tired now.

In the process of working on a piece of my main OC, Yumi; largely as a form of anatomy practice.

Bikini mode, engaged -

I'm still a long way from good; but it's better than I can usually pull off on full body work. Going to be doing more anatomy practice in the future.

C'nor, I'll be starting your request as soon as this piece is finished - I'm very sorry it's taken so long and thank you for the patience!

*edit*

Should add 2 notes:

1) I don't know why photobucket messed up the top of the pic like that; but it's on their end not mine.

2) You can see a bigger version on DA if you can't see this version well enough; my DA is in my sig; I mention that cause photobucket really cuts pictures down and while that's no problem on a headshot; it's more difficult to see a full body image this way I think.

So having had an incredibly unpleasant time trying to fix the knees on the previous picture; I've decided to just move on for now and work on C'nor's request since they've waited more than long enough >,<

Here's my first sketch of it:

Deviantart Page (http://mistformsquirrel.deviantart.com/art/C-nor-Request-Sketch-413534234?ga_submit_new=10%253A1384444268)

I decided not to put the fairie in the human's lap as the size difference made it hard to make out the fairie - and she fit on the shoulder pretty darn well I think. I need to make some alterations to the human I think, there's something 'missing' there but I'm not sure what.*

I wanted to make sure I'm going in a decent direction before I ink and paint it since that takes the longest while sketching is the easiest (usually).

*No it's not the ears - they'd be covered by her hair, unless C'nor wants a different hairstyle.

I think its the face itself thats lending to that - something is off - feeling. The eyes look properly placed, but I feel the nose may be at the wrong depicted angle, and may need to be redrawn to point it in a better direction, and because of it, it's also throwing off the mouth. Otherwise, I think your sketch looks quite nice, and I like its direction.

So, uh... I really, really, like how you did Nycca, except for one tiny thing (emphasis on 'tiny' :smalltongue:): I apparently didn't describe her very well, 'cause she's not that small. She's probably around four feet tall, or thereabouts, with Talina being six feet or so.

Mrr. Also a very pretty sketch, and once more my fault, but I think that I may have underestimated Nycca's size? >////>

I dunno, it might just be me, but she looks smaller in relation to Talina than I meant her to; maybe it has something to do with the body type you gave her, since she seems very... Delicate?

Talina and Nycca are lovers, if that helps with how they should look together? I just realized I don't actually know if I mentioned that or not and that it might be relevant for both posing and size.

2013-11-16, 08:10 AM
Oh < . .> I was thinking fairies tend to have an elvish bodytype (ie: significantly slimmer than a human of the same height); and I figured 4' wasn't particularly tall (though I do admit she's probably more like 3' in that picture >< I tried, really I did!)

I was trying to make things kinda intimate but casual, like they'd been sitting there talking and someone walked in. That's why the human has her fingers around the fairy's leg like that. >.<

I'll do another sketch soon - I probably won't get to it today since I have a load of stuff to do this morning and then I'll probably be asleep for a good while; but I'll get to it ASAP.

Lady Serpentine
2013-11-16, 08:17 AM
It's fine, and yeah, the three feet is probably what I'm seeing there. I know you tried, so don't worry, okay? If it helps more than measurements, I see Nycca as being maybe... Mid-chest on Talina?

And aye aye, that makes sense. No worries on posing, that's definitely something that might happen. Elvish bodytype is also probably appropriate, given Nycca still has weight issues from some backstory stuff.

And that sounds good~ Really liking what you're doing in the abstract, and sorry to make you keep doing it over to match up with them.

I may color it, may not, we'll see. Overall I'm pleased with it even if it isn't perfect, I feel like I got the body "mostly' right though so that's important.

Secondly is an OOTS style picture of another character for a different campaign, a fighter/wizard/eldritch knight with a squirrel familiar:

-----

As for what this image is all about:

These two characters, Ayanei (the girl with the ponytail), and Duros (the cyborg/robot), come from a story I wrote as a college sophomore during a Creative Writing class. Specifically it was written as a script for a play.* The professor liked it, I certainly enjoyed writing it - and since then I've on and off toyed with the idea of putting it together either as a traditional prose novel; or the graphic novel it was originally intended to be.

What really makes me happy here though isn't the history of this piece - though that's important for me.** Rather, it's the quality. It's far from perfect - but this is much better work than I can usually make. This is in all probability going to be my single best piece of art to date when it's finished.

There's two things I discovered in working on this:

1) I need to slow the frak down. Seriously, I used to try to cram out my art as fast as humanly possible, and not only did that cause a lot of mistakes - but it also left little opportunity for all the fun details.

2) I need to put a penciling stage between my sketching and my inking. Currently my sketching is extremely general - it's mostly just about getting basic shapes on the page. When I go directly to inking from that, I have to make up the details as I go. With this in-between pencil stage, I can feel out the details and such without having to worry about things like line technique or smoothness. Basically it's a stage where my lines can be a bit jaggedy and I can just shrug because that's kind of the point.

----

For fun, here are a couple *very old* pieces, to give you a comparison of how these characters (and my art skills) have evolved:

Duros:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Duros01_zps9aa76bd9.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Duros01_zps9aa76bd9.jpg.html)

Ayanei:

Multiple pics ahoy -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Aya14_zps8a96d7c2.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Aya14_zps8a96d7c2.jpg.html)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Aya02_zps57892f01.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Aya02_zps57892f01.jpg.html)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Aya07_zps4c9e5503.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Aya07_zps4c9e5503.jpg.html)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Aya04_zpsadd9988b.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Aya04_zpsadd9988b.jpg.html)

As you can see, some of those pictures are super-super old. (Heck, most of these were from when I still drew on lined paper during class for the most part <'x'> Lol, and one even has hiragana in it from when I was learning Japanese later in college >,<)

Anyway, mostly just a trip down memory lane for me, plus the new pic.

*Yes a play - that was the assignment. Of course I was hardly the only person to note that a script for a play can easily become a script for a graphic novel.

**I wrote this when I was 19. I'm 30 now - so this story has a lot of history with me. In fact, now that I think about it, it might well be my oldest complete story concept. I've got characters who are older, who have eventually evolved their own stories around them as time has gone on... but this particular story is almost certainly the oldest for me. So yeah, lot of nostalgia working on this too.

Thanks Alucard! <^_^> Hopefully when I finish the shades (something I'm going to be experimenting with significantly), this piece will really look good, at least compared to my usual work.

Trying to work on Huoshan is part of what prompted this particular series of drawings. Quite frankly, I was desperately unhappy with my work on him, to the point where despite putting about 8 hours into drawing him, I decided to just leave it lie, it's too embarrassing to post. My hope is that by practicing like crazy I can improve, then I can work on a portfolio and finally get back to college.* (Naturally the hope is that as I improve, I can also come back and do these requests to a much higher standard than I had been able to. I've been working on art since I was 5, and doing it seriously since I was 16 - you can imagine how depressing it is to only be at this level after all this time.)

*I had to drop out during the second half of my Junior year for a whoooooole laundry list of reasons. Ten years later, I am still quite bitter over that loss.

Alrighty, I've been continuing to work on the same picture, and I've got a bit of an update.

Before I post it however, I need to post a big disclaimer:

This is not at all done - it's not even cleaned up - meaning you will see a fair bit of coloring outside the lines here. There are also a lot of sections that simply have not been shaded yet, and the studs in the armor have not yet been given the bronze treatment I intend to (they're at present the same color as the leather they're in).

In short: I'm posting this not because it's really ready to be seen as a work on it's own, but because I think it shows where this piece is headed; and that last part makes me excited for this.

Anyway - here you go. I highly recommend clicking through the picture and using the small magnifying glass twice in order to see the image full size.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/Yumi2014ShadeWIP_zps3b35d399.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/Yumi2014ShadeWIP_zps3b35d399.jpg.html)

I'm not posting it to DA in this state since most people there don't look at the text and wouldn't really get the point of posting a piece in such an unfinished state.

Anyway that's where I'm at as of right now. The leather armor has taken *days* to figure out. The actual work on it didn't take so long, but figuring out how to get it to where it is was quite difficult. (I've never drawn leather that was shaded in this kind of style before.)

What I'm happy with:

Pretty much all the shading. The anatomy of the body below the neck. There are a few flaws, but they're not as glaring as some of my work and I suspect my next piece will give me a chance to eliminate those.

While neither the shading nor anatomy are perfect, I think they show significant improvement over my usual work.

What I'm not happy with: The size of the head and the length of the neck, also the face (particularly the eyes).

I've seen "realistic" anime style pictures enough times to know that it can be done... but I'm clearly not there yet, so the face is kind of derpy compared to what I want it to be. Eventually I'll hit the right note, it's just going to take more practice, and I couldn't seem to manage it for this particular piece.

The head size is also too large in general - originally I made it too small* - so I deliberately increased the size and the result isn't what I wanted it to be. (In black and white it seemed alright, but once I added color it started to be painfully obvious.)

Neck length is another issue - the head is just too far off the body - not by a huge margin, but by enough that it'd be freakish in real life. Again something I didn't really notice until I'd started adding colors.

That said, I think I can correct most of these issues in the next piece, so that'll be OK.

Next step will probably be to work on the beige cloth areas (arms, legs, skirt) or the bronze (studs and weapons). The boots I'm still debating a bit... I could do them in the same style as the armor, or I could take them in another direction. I'll probably do the former in the end, but I'm not ready to commit just yet.

*She is after all supposed to be about 13-14 in this picture, and thus would have a larger head-to-body ratio than an adult.

Cleaned the picture up a bit, did the leggings, sleeves and skirt.

One thing that's starting to bother me though: The armor is more orange than I realized. May have to go back and tone it down after I get everything else done.

There we go, all done!

Info on the character (copied from the DA link):

Thus begins my humble project. For details on the overall project, please see here. For details about this particular incarnation of the character, please read on below!

So, this is the original version of Yumi - I created her shortly after Dark Age of Camelot's Trials of Atlantis expansion came out. I'd wanted to try a Valkyn Savage, one of the new races/classes respectively. I assumed it would be a throwaway character for an afternoon or two - little did I know the mayhem I was unleashing! This version of her is rather... odd frankly, as it bears little resemblance to her later incarnations in personality, fighting style or even visuals.

Anyway, this version of Yumi is 13 years old, rather a brat, and mostly spent her time as a sidekick for a big troll Berserker named Rillan. Despite the early installment weirdness going on here, I have an understandable soft spot for this version of the character.

MMORPG notes:

Dark Age of Camelot was the second MMO I ever played, and the first I genuinely fell in love with. I spent a lot of time with EQ1, but half the time I was pulling my hair out; and I never did find a character during that period that grabbed my attention for long.

At any rate, she's wearing a low level variant of Midgard's Studded Leather armor. I had to fudge a few details however: I couldn't find matching boots, so I went largely by memory on those, they're probably not identical. The bracers/wrist blades are entirely fictional - the hand-to-hand weapons I used in DAOC are very difficult to find a visual for online, so after spending an hour or so looking I gave up and went with my own design there. I don't like doing that, but for a game that old, I don't think that's too shocking really.

It should also be noted that Yumi in-game was a Valkyn, which while not dissimilar to what you see here, was definitely more bestial and walked in a hunched over hobble/limp. They also lacked tails. As noted in my journal, I'm fudging the races I've used for her in various games, as I almost always have to 'make due' rather than getting something close to what I want. Sadly it seems catgirls are not popular among MMO developers for some reason <;_;> *shrug* What'mIgonnado.

Artistic notes:

I'm fairly pleased with this piece. It's definitely my most refined bit of work to date. I wished I'd had the energy left to polish a few more areas up and integrate the background and foreground a bit better, but on the whole, I'm pleased.

My one dislike is the face, head and neck. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong there. I've seen wonderful anime/manga style paintings and drawings with eyes even larger than what I used here, so I don't think it's that. There's just something I'm not quite getting right there. We'll have to work on that as we go along. As for the head and neck - that was just bad proportion work early on. Initially the head was too small, and when I sized it up I had to expand the neck too... and that screwed everything up, but I didn't really notice it until I'd already gotten into coloring and by then I'd decided "Oh screw it." Hopefully the next piece will avoid that misstep. (Let me rephrase that - if I can at all manage, it WILL avoid that.)

Woohoo! I think I'm making some progress here!

This is a very, very early stage piece at the moment, but I'm absolutely thrilled how it's coming out so far. Currently working on the Final Fantasy XI version of Yumi, as a sequel to the Dark Age of Camelot version upthread.

Thanks Alucard! I'm hoping to clean it up and start shading/highlighting tonight.

Two steps forward, one step back tonight.

I got the hair and face mostly done, but I made a serious error with the nose and mouth. Rather than explain it, I'll just show it to you.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/YumiFFXIVersion2Woops_zpsb2be4e94.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/YumiFFXIVersion2Woops_zpsb2be4e94.jpg.html)

I was so darn focused on getting the shades right that I neglected worrying about the angle and position of the things I was shading.

So yeah, later tonight or tomorrow I'm going to have to redo those bits. That said, I'm pleased with the hair and the rest of the face, though they'll require further work once I've done everything else. That said, I think once I fix the positioning of the mouth and nose it'll actually look quite good. I still want to add more detail to the eyes yet as well, but I'm not sure what yet.

Here's what the piece currently looks like as a whole.

With Lines -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/YumiFFXIVersion23WithLines_zpsa3da77a5.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/YumiFFXIVersion23WithLines_zpsa3da77a5.jpg.html)

Without Lines -

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/YumiFFXIVersion23WithoutLines_zpsec8dfaf8.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/YumiFFXIVersion23WithoutLines_zpsec8dfaf8.jpg.html )

-----

Right now the version with lines still looks a lot better than the version without - partly because it covers up my face error, and partly because it adds detail that wasn't previously there.

That said, I think as I tighten things up, the unlined version will eventually overtake the lined version. If that doesn't work, I can always ink it after the fact.

Did some slightly unusual Wildstar fanart today.

It all starts normal enough...

All told, I'm quite happy with these. They were done *very* quickly, but they actually look fairly nice for the limited time put in. I kinda liked working with big, chunky, sketchy lines for a change, and simply not worrying about precision at all. Not a practical style for serious work; but for something like this? Perfect.

The way you decked out your robot reminds me of my Shadowrun hacker's drone modifications.

Among other things, he drone-ified a bunch of "Transmorphing Space Ninjas!" (essentially Power Rangers action figures) and outfitted them with ruthenium-polymer stealth suits; they essentially had the same sort of cloaking the Predator had.

Useful little buggers. :smallamused:

As you can see, the idea of making this a full painting just didn't pan out. I'm not giving up on trying to learn to paint, and I'm definitely going to continue experimenting, but it's just taking some time to figure things out.

So for now, I've gone with my traditional inked look.

I posted separate headshots so you could see the area that's recieved the most attention since last time, because looking at the full WIP doesn't really show the progress all that well I don't feel.

Chugging along.

Normally I agree with your advice Domochevsky, but in this particular case I only really agree with one element of it - the neck length*. <. .>

The stuff that your overlay hits here are mostly stylistic choices on this one hehe >.< I know that sounds like a brush off, but it really isn't, for once I'm actually getting a significant amount of my imagination to the paper. Your advice is always welcome! I just want to make sure you know why I'm doing things the way I'm doing them, so it doesn't seem like I'm just ignoring you or something.

Explanation of what I'm trying to accomplish:

Basically, the face is the way it is largely due to my attempting to avert only six faces (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OnlySixFaces). What I've got isn't perfect, but it's actually pretty close.

Head size is similar - this version of the character is 23 rather than 13 like the previous incarnation. Usually for an adult you'd have them be 7-8 head heights tall; in this case it's only 6, but that's because (despite her age) she still looks and often acts more like a teenager than an adult. Well that and she's extremely short - canonically 4' 11" tall. Yes, high shelves are her bane. >.>;

And of course the eye, mouth and nose positions are based on the smaller head proportion (which isn't to say I nailed them perfectly, but I'm mostly happy with it - only the right eye (our left) bothers me.)

The neck's thickness, rather than length is a function of keeping the body looking a bit more teenage looking.

The length though... yeah that's a problem, and will be fixed!

*Eventually I will stop giving people giraffe necks... I think I've figured out the problem too. I have a weird problem with drawing through objects, that is - if I have a head, I don't want it to overlap with the body at all... even if the chin at least would do so from the angle of the picture. It's an unconscious problem, but one I think I can fix. - Also it helps that I've learned how to cut and paste well enough to shorten out of control necks >.<; Requires a lot of work, but a lot less than redrawing the entire head.

mistformsquirrl
2014-06-12, 01:21 AM
I do believe I have fixed the neck length problem!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/mistharm/YumiFFXIVersion26Headshot_zps0226f3d6.jpg ([URL=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/mistharm/media/YumiFFXIVersion26Headshot_zps0226f3d6.jpg.html)

It wasn't too difficult really, I just had to cut and paste the head lower, then fix the shading on the neck.

Really hoping I can avoid this problem in the future though, sure I can fix it, but fixing it after the fact is a pain in the... tail. >_>; (I'll show myself out.)

Specifically a propaganda poster for a contest on the Wildstar forums. I'm not going to win of course, but I really enjoyed putting this together just the same. The design, incidentally, is based off an old WWII propaganda poster:

Quickie piece I did for an avatar on the Wildstar forums:

DA Link (http://mistformsquirrel.deviantart.com/art/Wildstar-Forum-Avatar-464648047?ga_submit_new=10%253A1404158206)

I couldn't keep the eyes level no matter what I did >< I'll probably do a new avatar at some point because I'm not wholly satisfied with this one, but I couldn't work on it any longer without going mad so >.< it is what it is.

One thing I did like though: I learned to use the Pencil tool for inking, and (in some situations) I can see that being my preferred method going forward. So that's progress at least!

Domochevsky
2014-07-01, 02:07 PM
If it helps: You can get out unevenness in anatomy by flipping the image horizontally frequently.
(In oC the Navigator window has a button that flips the image visually without editing it.)

Also yeah, a thick pencil is just as good for coloring as a brush. It's what I prefer to use (together with disabled density control) for flat colors.

mistformsquirrl
2014-07-01, 03:12 PM
Yeah, I should have done that >.<; Everything was coming together so well... right up until the eyes, and when they didn't do what I wanted them to do I let myself get frustrated rather than taking my time <x.x> Hopefully whatever I come up with for a replacement down the line will be much improved.

I am happy with the prosthetic hand though at least < ._.>/

Need to get to work on my Fey Week avatar too... decided to drop the Will-o-Wisp idea and go for an Atomie instead >.>/

DA Link: Go Here (http://mistformsquirrel.deviantart.com/art/Draw-Your-Friends-2-Mantid-466224471)

I'm mostly very, very happy with this piece. There are some notable flaws of course, and her hair didn't get the treatment I wanted to give it, I just couldn't make it work for anything... but overall I'm quite pleased. I really enjoyed working on her shoes and tights in particular; it was fun to work with costume parts I don't usually use much.
