It's not cynicism you want, it's scepticism. Scepticism means wothholding judgement or belief until evidence either way is presented. Cynicism involves making a negative judgement or disbelief right off the bat as the default position.

One the one hand, I understand the need for brevity in a motto. On the other hand, the world is not so black and white (no, not even then).

I'd tell you my motto but it can't be repeated here.
