Checking the legality of doing this and wondering what other advantages this would have.
If I made a custom weapon of legacy, a spiked chain, and then grafted it to myself with weapon graft (FF p213) for 3000g (1000g +price of weapon), would I be able to keep advancing it as a weapon of legacy? Would grafting a spiked chain even be legal?

I don't know anything about weapon grafts, but it seems reasonable.

Edit: Sorry I couldn't be of any further assistance than a picture.

Nah, the picture's great - makes it easier to convince the DM to let me do it =P

Good luck with it, it's an interesting idea and it sounds rather fun

Intending to combine it with the constrict effect from flay - basically gives me a weapon based improved grab with no size limitations.

Obtain a good artifact/relic/WoL sword, graft it to your hand and corrupt its power for evil...
