Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 21 through 30.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on June 8th, 4am EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, it was :elan: 13 Plot, Ahoy! (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0013.html) which was the one who outlasted the rest. Which will it be this week? Only you can decide that.

Ten strips enter, but only one can emerge the winner of....

Some are meh.
Some are funny (see 30)
Some are important (I was really going to vote for the first appearance of MitD)

But 25 is priceless.

Damn, I want to say "I'm invisible", but I have to go for
23
just because it epitomises MitD for me.

I'll concur with 25. "I'm invisible" is fairly priceless, and there are a couple of lovely touches that really make that final panel work -- Vaarsuvius covering zir eyes, and Elan holding his cloak as he runs around.

I love that the nameless random encounters were able to show some agency aside from falling on the swords of the PCs.

"And why not arm this deadly but well-hidden booby trap, goblin friend."
"Done! Now let us flee."

EDIT: Also, the nice little touch of what part the adventurers get angry at Durkon. Roy is mad once the goblins mention recouping the expenses incurred by the expedition, Vaarsuvius is mad once the goblins destroy the powerful magical object, and Belkar is mad once the goblins flee, denying him the chance to harvest their organs.

some real awesome stuff here (like the first appearance of Team Evil!), but I'm going for:

22 Leadership in Action

#25: Armor Begone. The first strip to make me actually laugh out loud, if I'm not mistaken. Still does, really. "How I wish that were true." "Please cast Blindness on me."

22. I love beat panels, and here they were just marvelous.

This batch was actually kinda unimpressive for me. I'm going to go with 24, though, just because it's one of my favorite gags so far.

23 is awesome! Though "treasure, what treasure?" always cracks me up too.

I'm going with 22. I really didn't like the whole "I'm invisible" stuff.

29. Gotta love anything that mocks DnD rules.

Agreed that this is kinda a weak batch, although there are some good gags in there. For me, it's a close call between #24, #27, and #28. But as good as "It's a touch spell" is, I think I'll go with what appears to a frontrunner: #24: Do You Hear What I Hear? for pretty much the same reasons as oppyu.

As others have said, a bit of a weak batch, but I'll go with 23, for the introduction of the MitD.

This week's contenders are not as good as the first two batches, but there are some classics.

I guess I'll go with 26, with 28 as a close second.

I vote for 27!

26, for Roy's snark.

"Wow, that is such a dumb idea, I feel dumber just hearing it."
"I would rather poke my eyes out with a burning stick than open them right now."

22 or 25...decisions, decisions.

Think I'm gonna have to go with 22.

Between 24 or 27, mmm...

27 ><

sam79
2013-06-03, 04:31 PM
Hmm, tough choice again, though probably this batch is of a slightly lower standard than the previous two. I think that's mainly because the 'I'm invisible/naked Bard' stuff was really funny first time round, but not so amsuing second (third, fourth, fifth) time around.

For me, this was really between 29 and 24, which seem to hold up best. (bronze medal for 23).

I'll vote for 29 by a nose, for being more economical in its writing! (though I love the idea of a loquacious goblin just out of shot in 24).

Whooops. Sorry, folks.

I know that voting should be closed now, but it completely slipped my mind that voting was supposed to close last night. I've had a stressful week (to put it very mildly) and the days just slipped on by. Also, I was kinda posting a lot to give myself some stress relief and distraction, and I wasn't thinking about scheduled stuff.

So, I'll put up the results and start up a new thread in a few hours.
