Bonus Spell Equation Help

I know there is a table and everything, though I'm trying to find an equation for how many bonus spells you get of each level (I find things like that easier to remember). I think it is as follows from me seeing the bonus spell table:

(m-s)/4 +1

Round all fractions down.

m=casting bonus spell ability modifier
s=spell level

Does this work or an I too sleepy and missing something obvious?

It does indeed, although the parentheses are a bit odd. I'd write it like this:

bs = (m - s)/4 + 1
