Message is too short

I've noticed of late editing posts is impossible because i get a 'message is too short' error, even if I'm quite obviously way over the 10 character minimum. If I try to copy and paste the message into a new post i get the same error.

BB Code and quotes are not counted.

Thats the thing though. There are no quotes. I could copy and paste an entire monster entry thats a few thousand characters and it still says message is too short.

I first noticed it trying to edit the front page of my orc/goblin/giant prc thread. It let me edit in a few entries one at a time and then locked up and kept giving me the error message. Since then it's done it on anything i try to edit.

Edit: and as you can see I can post it here for some reason. I just cant edit or repost it in it's original thread.

There is a 25K character limit on posts. Are you sure you're not hitting that and misreading the message?

(Also, either way, you can save characters by making use of the THREAD and POST tags rather than using a full URL of something on the forums.)

Nope it was the too short message. Got it again today in SMBG when i tried to announce the winners of the caption contests.

It's kind of randomly starting to occur in any post edit.

Are you sure you're pressing edit not quote? I made that mistake just today.

Yup I'm sure. It's like once the error happens it won't let me edit a post no matter what I type in. Sometimes it clears up and I can edit after a few days or so, sometimes it's stubborn.

If you have any quote tags at all, if one breaks it could count the whole thing, this reducing post count. It's also possible for otherwise whole tags to break between copying an pasting, somehow.

Yeah, this is what I assumed. But what I'd love to see is what the template looks like, what the edits were, etc. It's hard to try to reproduce an error without details of how it occurs. If somebody can reproduce it, it's easier to figure out the cause and come up with a fix.

So, Bhu, the more details you can provide when it happens the better. What did the post look like when you started? What did you do before getting the error? Did you do anything to make the error go away (like, for example, abandoning your change and starting over, etc)? Details matter, so the more you can provide the easier it'll be for folks who are interested in help - like me - to dive in and figure out what's happening.

I think the best option would be (when this happens the next time), just to capture your complete input that caused the trouble (e.g. copying the complete text to post it here (or uploading it as a textfile) or taking a screenshot and uploading it)) - seeing a fixed post doesn't really help to find the error

edit: actually, a question for Bhu. Does it always happen when you're attempting to make use of this template? Or does it happen at other times, too.

And if it's always, please walk through the steps of what you do.
