View Full Version : Making wall of force into armor?

I know its really easy to make into a tower shield, just make a flat steel frame to cast the wall on (since the area is *up to* a certain size). But would this work on a smaller scale? I was thinking of making armor that has dozens or hundreds of tiny flat fitted plates so you could cast wall of force on each part (since the surface has to be flat). I am thinking this would be best with splint mail.

Am I being overly complicated with this? Is there an easier way to get the same effect of being completely encased in a wall of force that moves with you?

And overall is there a way to shape a wall of force into something other than a wall, like a dome?

Riverine is exactly what you're looking for. In the book Stormwrack.

Isn't this more or less what mage armor does?

An invisible but tangible field of force surrounds the subject of a mage armor spell, providing a +4 armor bonus to AC.

But I want an actual wall of force surrounding me, with its near complete invincibility.

Well, Otiluke's Resilient Sphere is pretty much that, but not mobile. Otiluke's Telekinetic Sphere does that and moves, but it's a bit difficult to attack from. Personally, I'm a big fan of a Sizing Riverine Buckler, or Sizing Light Riverine Shield. Since it can turn to any size you want, you can Swift action turn it into a Colossal-sized Wall of Force as you please. Pretty useful. Especially if you make it Animated.

The wall cannot move,
.... Am I missing something?

I think it's called Cube of Force. It's in core and lets you briefly make a cube of force to ride around in.

For actual armor, yeah, Riverine is what you're looking for. Damn near unbreakable.

Cube of Force uses charges, though...

That's the price you pay for invincibility. Besides, it replenishes every day. I'd be surprised if he even saw 60 rounds of combat in one day.

He could try Permanency on a Prismatic Sphere spell if he needs all-day protection.

I don't think Prismatic Sphere moves with you though, which is a pity. But then again, seeing as how it's an Abjuration, it would shatter if you tried to forcibly overlap with an enemy, and so it would be kind of useless if it did move. It would be good defense, but you'd never be able to attack anyone.

The feat tax on IotSFV isn't really enough to slow down the absurd capabilities that class gives, especially since (if memory serves) the prerequisites are feats you can get from Wizard bonus feats.
