Trog's Second Floor IV

Once you walk upstairs in Trog's Tavern, you find yourself looking down a long hall at twenty doors. Each room has one large bed in it, a desk and chair, and a couple of chairs at a small table.

We can. Lets just go home, Aesa. We do not belong here. Verdandi looks at her sister pleadingly. Aesa is stunned by the request. She appears to think about it, then raises a hand hesitantly to start sketching a rune.

Hiko sighs. Please... Can I come? I want to see...

Hearing that, Game licks Vera's cheek, then shifts his weight. Chirr. Put me down, please. I will miss you, Vera, but I want to stay with Aerin.

Verdandi slowly puts Game down, shedding a few last tears as she does. Aesa shakes her head. Unless you die in glorious combat, I cannot take you to valhalla. She looks down at her hand, then twists off her iron ring. I do not want you to die, but I would be glad to take you there.

Hiko draws his blades. Thank you.

[AmberVael]

Aesa steps back in surprise. After all this- after everything I have done- you're willing to die for me?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Chirrrr. Goodbye, Vera. We will miss you. Game looks sad.

Hiko nods, a solemn look coming across his face

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames appears. Vera, I understand that you are returning to Valhalla. I do not want you to go, and under the terms of your oath of loyalty to me, you are therefore forbidden to do so. Iames closes his eyes, then opens them. Verdandi, I release you from my service. Fare well. He disappears again.

Aesa takes a seat next to Verdandi, trying to figure this out. Verdandi tenses at Iames appearance, hesitates and reaches out a hand towards him as he disappears.

Hiko's hands begin to shake. Are we gonna do this or not?

Game looks at Vera. Chirr? Did you want to talk to him?

Aesa glances at Verdandi, who is torn again, then at the iron ring in her hand. I do not know. Verdandi puts a hand on Game and wonders whether she does or not.

Chirr. If you do, you know that all you have to do is say his name.

Hiko grits his teeth. If you don't do it, I'm going to find someone who will anyway.

That is not what I mean, Hiko. I do not know where we will go. Verdandi opens her mouth, then closes it.

Hiko lowers his blades. Go home... Go to the place where you can exist again...

But we do exist. Our problems come from having to deny it. Aesa looks at him uncertainly. Should we? Verdandi finds that she does not have the courage to say Iames's name, and she picks up Game again.

Game looks at Vera. Chirrr? Do you want to talk to him?

Hiko's brow furrows. Yes dammit! You exists! She exists! Vera and Aesa both exist!

No, should we still go? Aesa gets up and walks towards Hiko and stops a little ways in front of him. Verdandi nods to Game and strokes him.

Hiko nods. Come on. Let's go.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Chirr. Alright then. Iames?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames appears again, looking like he's been crying. Yes?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Chirr. Vera wants to talk to you.

Iames looks at Vera. Yes, Verdandi? What was it? Did you - Iames stops with a wince, blinking back fresh tears. Did you want me to dissolve our engagement?

[AmberVael]

I guess we'll go then. Vera? Vera? Verdandi just stares at Iames, unable to say anything.

[Takehiko the Marooned]

Hiko sheathes his swords. Is she alright?

[Lord Iames Osari]

Vera? A tiny note of hope creeps into Iames's telepathic voice, standing out against the background of despair. Iames takes a hesitant step toward her.

[AmberVael]

Aesa closes her eyes and puts a hand on Verdandi's shoulder. Vera. She gives her name an odd intonation, but it is still recognizable. Verdandi looks up at her with a small smile and stands. The valkyrie swallows her fear and puts her arms around Iames.

Iames returns the embrace. His hand is still covered in blood. He closes his eyes and a few tears leak out.

Game glides to the floor.

[AmberVael]

Aesa sits back down on the bed and watches them in shame.

Vera, I love you. You know that, don't you? His voice is uncertain.

Verdandi nods and cries.

Hiko sighs. I'm not sure I can help you here... He heads out the door, shaking his head

No, Hiko, wait. Aesa walks after him.

Iames smiles wryly. Right. He leans in to kiss her.

Verdandi holds tightly to Iames and kisses him fervently.

Iames kisses Vera back with equal fervor.

Verdandi does not move for some time, but finally pulls out of the kiss and sags in his arms.

Game sits and watches.

Verdandi nods and puts her head on his shoulder.

Iames transports them to his planar realm.

Aesa comes upstairs and goes into room #3, leaving the door open behind her.

Hiko comes in afterwards, grinning

Aesa waves the door shut and smiles a little at Hiko.

Hiko returns the smiles and kisses her

Aesa closes her eyes and kisses him back. I never imagined something like this.

Both. She sits down on the bed and leans back.

Hiko smiles and joins her, kissing her again

Aesa wraps her slender arms around him and accepts the kiss, then nibbles at his ear.

Hiko grins, kissing her neck.

The door shuts again, this time on everyone else.

Vael appears in his room with a tired sigh. He debates doing something, but decides neither he nor his player could handle much right now.
He slowly begins to fall asleep.

Phoenix walks up the stairs and goes into number 9. She closes and locks the door behind her.

Vael wakes up and takes the wooden cube into his hand. He looks at it, then lets the wood fade away and watches the globe hover in the air.
Can I save Seren? Do I really have the strength?
He reaches out a single finger towards the crystal globe.
If I just took the power... I could save her. Where would be the harm in that?
His hand hovers over the orb.
No, Ayral wanted me to. I don't know why, but that is reason enough for me not to do it.
He resolutely withdraws his hand and stares at the orb.
What would it be like... to be a god?
Vael tries not to think about it, but his eyes and mind stray back to the orb. He reaches out a hand again, not quite touching it.

After hours of meditation, Vael is still tempted by the orb. He reaches out his hand, then snarls and twists the ring on his finger. Fenix looks at the orb and shakes his head, picks it up and puts it into the top bedside drawer. He shuts the drawer and goes out of his room and looks around. After a moment he walks downstairs.

Fenix comes upstairs and goes into his room. He quickly falls asleep.

Aesa gets out of bed and stretches her legs, arms and wings momentarily before snapping her fingers and dressing herself instantly with Galdr. She smiles down at Hiko and then leaves the room and walks down the stairs.

Fenix wakes up and changes himself into Vael, who opens the drawer and draws out the green, glowing orb that contains Dios's essence with telekinesis. He sits there, staring at it.

Almost a day later, Vael goes downstairs, still holding the orb in front of him with telekinesis.

[Dib]

A robed figure appears outside one of the rooms. It is as still as a statue, the NPC sleeping in the room begins to stir in discomfort as their dream turns into a nightmare. The figure sighs in ecstasy and disappears again, leaving the NPC writhing on the floor and screaming in horror,

[Cathrindir]

Cathrindir walks up the stairs. He looks for which room the screaming is coming from, sighs, and opens the door.

[Dib]

Inside, the NPC is rolling around on the floor and screaming, they are still asleep,

[Cathrindir]

Cathrindir jogs over to the NPC and goes down on one knee. He quickly checks the man's vital signs while trying to wake him up.

[Dib]

He seems normal apart from a faster heartbeat, he wakes up easily with one final scream,

[Cathrindir]

Cathrindir seems slightly relieved. "What happened?"

[Dib]

They shake their head, looking horrified

"It was horrible... it felt so real..."

[Cathrindir]

Cathrindir waits for the man to calm down, then gently repeats his question.

[Dib]

"I-I was chained to a... to a rock... and there were these birds... or puppets... but they swooped down from the dark... they were eating my stomach... it-it felt so real..."

[Cathrindir]

Cathrindir calmly places a hand on the man's shoulder and says gently, "It's alright; it was just a nightmare." He stands, then, just to be safe, casts Detect Magic on the man to see if there are any enchantments placed on him.

[Dib]

"But... it felt so horrible... it was like it was real... I could feel the pain..."

There is no magic,

Cathrindir sighs. "When in a dream that one can associate with, sometimes one can actually feel emotions or feelings that would occur if he was really in the dream. If it happens again, I'd advise you to go to Inari's and see if they can help." He nods to the man, then leaves.

They get back into the bed

the kender is flung around in the wind, like a green and gray snowflake. it aims, drops, and lands with a thud onto the roof of trogs tavern.

it grips the ice and snow, filled with nothing but vemnence at the people inside (who may no longer be inside) who hurt it earlier, but especially with an insane desire to destroy the town. somehow, in that little playful mind, the desire to help the town has been twisted into beleiving that the town can be helped only if it is dismantled and rebuilt.

cog. oh, and try to be sneaky about it this time, ok?

the rod unfolds itself, and gets to work. roof tiles go first, then the beams. following those are the walls. there is so much stuff.... the rod makes short work of it, but it takes time. all of the beds are also taken apart, and various clocks are spread out in all their geary glory.

the kender is ready for any opposition. it has a wand in one hand, various magic rings, and prismatic sphere already cast.

(in town time this would take a while, so i will give someone a chance to rspond)

the rod has all of the walls finished. now it is working on the furniture. some of the npc's freak out, and run downstairs.

the rod has picked up speed. in a whirlwind of activity, the rod spins around the tavern. the snow is making a tornato-shape as it works its way down....

trogs second floor is dismantled

((idestructable is different from indismantleable. i havent destroyed a single nail, and said nail would retain all of the magic that was poured into the tavern, thereby said nail would be indestructable.

Vael appears in his non existant room, then looks down at the ground far below him.

He falls to the ground floor of what is left of Trog's.

Vael comes back upstairs and into his room. He tries to put all his things back in order.

Mik shifts to hybrid form, and enters the room, shutting and locking it behind him. He climbs into the bed, shifting to human form and curls up underneath the blanket. There's a small flash of light and Pikachu wanders up near Mik's face.

"Pika?"

Go away.

"Pika pi?"

Mik starts to respond, but only tears come, and for the second time in one night, he cries himself to sleep. Pikachu curls up near Mik's head and falls asleep.

Several deep thuds come from inside a spare room

Phoenix stands outside of her door, listening and waiting. After a moment she grins, opens the door, tosses her cloak inside, closes the door again and locks it. She stands, shapeshifts into a very attractive elf who is wearing leather armor and little else. She then starts waiting in the hall.

[Kenyon]

Silver walks up the stairs, with Phil still knocked out over his shoulder. He eyes the elf standing in the hall, and gives her a greeting nod.

"Ma'am."

He then looks around for his room.

[phoenixineohp]

The elf goes up to him, apparently a little nervous and embarrased.
"Umm sir. Could you give me a hand? I... I think I left my key in my room... and so... I seem to have locked myself out." She scratches the back of her head and gives him an embarrased smile.

[Kenyon]

Silver looks at his key, the elf, the door, and Phil's unconscious body. Lather, rinse, repeat this a couple times.

"Sure."

Silver drops Phil to the ground, and walks up to the door. He fiddles with the handle for a bit, before giving it a quick hit with his shoulder, attempting to bust the door open.

((Silver follows the standard big, semi-dumb guy template))

The door doesn't budge.

The elf puts her hand gently up on his arm.
"Oh no! Don't hurt yourself!" She runs her hand down his arm to his hand, then lets it linger there for a second before placing it on her chest.
"I wouldn't want you to get hurt!"

A dumb grin crosses Silver's face, as Rex and Vinnie come up the stairs.

"Hey, Silver! D'we need to keep your ass on a leash, too?"

Silver suddenly snaps to, and looks over at Rex. "Sorry, boss. She's locked out." He gestures to the elf.

Rex glares at Silver. "Then she can ask management for the spare. Pick Phil back up, 'n get yourself back to your room."

Silver grumbles to himself. "Sorry, boss." He picks up Phil, and slings him over his shoulder. He then apologetically nods at the elf. "Sorry ma'am."

Everyone then goes into their respective rooms.

An invisible floating orb comes up the stairs behind the men and follows the leader (Rex) into his room.

With everyone gone Phoenix changes back to her normal self.
"Darn it, so close! I guess I'll just have to kill them the usual way." She shrugs then taps on her door and it opens. She steps inside and it closes and locks behind her.

There are several more thuds from the room that thudded yesterday

Iames comes up the stairs and goes to the door of #13. Open up in there.

There is no answer, the door is slightly ajar

Iames pushes the door open.

All the furniture inside the room has been pushed to the side and there are a dozen or so lifesize humanoid puppets made of wood and painted white hanging from the ceiling

George walks in with his hood pulled back, he then join Iames to in discovering why is the room thumping.

Iames looks around the room to see where the thudding is coming from.

There is a sudden loud thud as another of the puppets appears alognside the others.

Iames looks at the puppets to see if they resemble particular people.

At first they seem to have no faces, then he finds one that bares a striking resemblance to him...

Iames tries to detect any magic or psionics on the puppets.

There is no magic or psionics on the puppet ((Its something special))

The puppet suddenly flexes its arms and looks Iames in the face, staring with shining souless black eyes.

Iames takes a step back. What are you?

[Dib]

The puppet does not respond... instead, the strings holding it up disappear and it lurches forawrd a single step, taking on a similar physique to Iames, though still obviously a puppet

Iames's eyes blaze. Hells, no. I don't know what this thing is, but I know it isn't good. He teleports downstairs.

[Dib]

The puppet stops moving, but continues to look like Iames... after a while it slowlylurches out of the door and downstairs...

Vael comes upstairs, and gets in the way of the puppet on the staircase.

The puppet continues to walk, even if it has to walk into Vael

Iames follows him up. It's #13.

Vael walks to room 13 and goes inside.

Erdan walks up the stairs and pulls out a horn (what do you call those, the ones that you use to bugle). He touches some of the symbols on it and then waits at the top of the stairs.

Vael appears, then looks down at himself and makes sure he has all his limbs.
Well this is quite extraordinary. Forgive my shortness with you, its just that I had a plan and you were harming our secrecy. What do you want?

[Admiral One]

Erdan looks at Vael with a surprised look.

"Oh. Sorry, I have had alot on my mind lately. Were you there when that centaur came in?"

((watching House, posting slowly))

[AmberVael]

Vael nods.
Calpurnia? Yes.

[Admiral One]

"Alright, so I didn't waste a couple of spells trying to find you. Remember how she said she was being hunted and I went on that speech with the flag? Well the hunters are here. I overheard one of them talking to Destro downstairs. I think it was telepathic communication but I'm pretty sure I could hear them correctly."

[AmberVael]

Vael narrows his eyes.
I see. There is a fight going on downstairs, so forgive me if I'm a bit short.

[Admiral One]

"Yeah, I can hear it too, we had better get down there. I just wanted to tell you so you could do take action. I do not have many connections here in town so I wouldn't be able to help Calpurnia much. Well, time for a fight."

He begins casting spells on himself in preparation as he heads dowstairs.

Vael nods and walks downstairs.

Phoenix, not looking like Phoenix, walks slowly as she helps Fenix up the stairs.

Fenix eventually gets to his room and rattles open the door.
Thank you. I'm Fenix, by the way.

"I know." She smiles and kisses him, raising her hands to hold his neck and head.

Fenix tries to pull away and ends up collapsing against the wall.
I um, no, I can't.

She smiles more and goes for another kiss.

Fenix lets himself slide down the wall, out of her reach.
I can't do this, I'm not available.

She pouts a little.
"Come on, no one would find out."

Fenix snickers uncontrollably.
Right, right of course not.
The sarcasm in his voice is entirely obvious.

"Come on, it would be worth it." She starts to let her hand playfully run up his leg.
"And I can make sure on one finds out."

[AmberVael]

Fenix laughs uncontrollably.
Well we are being watched, someone already knows, and my answer would still be the same even if we weren't. No.

"Why not?" She pouts and looks sad.

Because I already have someone else. And even if I didn't, you're going about it all wrong.

Suddenly she stops and smiles. She sits back and closes her eyes. As she does the features and colours melt away as her regular ones come back to the surface. Her usual dress appears as does her red hair, eyes and her black scars. She opens her eyes and smiles a little.
"I've had some issues with some of the guys down stairs and needed to put on a new face. I thought you might know my cane, but when you didn't I decided to try something else. I'm sorry, but I wanted to make sure."

[AmberVael]

Fenix looks slightly confused as he glances at the cane, then recognizes it.
Oh...
He gives her a mock glare.
You really are just out to get me, aren't you?

[phoenixineohp]

She smiles.
"Mmmhmmm." She slowly crawls over to him to kiss him.

[AmberVael]

Fenix smiles and kisses her.
Not that I mind in the least.

[phoenixineohp]

"Oh really?" She looks at him.
"Here, let's get you into bed." She stands and offers him help up.

[AmberVael]

What, you think I mind that you are after me non stop?
Fenix grins at her and takes her assistance.

She raises a bit of an eyebrow at him but doesn't say anything as she gets him through the door an onto the bed. She starts to tuck him in.

Fenix smiles at her and pulls her closer.
Stay with me, Phoenix.

She smiles and crawls into bed. She looks at the door as it closes and locks, then turns back to Fenix.
"Sweet dreams." She wraps her arms around him and starts to drift off to sleep.

The figure (who was just standing there) walks down the stairs and dis-appears.

Phoenix wakes up after a long and deep sleep. She gets up and fetches her things. She grabs a piece of parchment and scribbles out a nice note to Fenix saying that she will be gone for a little while but looks forward to having an ale with him when she gets back. She takes one last look around at the room and Fenix before vanishing.

[AmberVael]

Fenix wakes up and sighs as he notices Phoenix's absence, but smiles at the note. He gets up a little unsteadily, then changes into Vael, who dresses and goes downstairs.

[The Nine]

A man with a staff, brightly coloured robes and a burn scar walks up the stairs. He spends a few minutes checking each room for habitation before assuring himself they are all mostly empty. The ones that aren't empty do not have Destro in them, so he walks back down the stairs.

[Caihana]

Caihana heads into one of the unoccupied rooms and, after locking the door, collapses on the bed and falls into a heavy sleep.

[The Unit]

Dante and Jasmine head in and go to bed. Where several activities take place. But there seems to be something blocking your view. What is it? Oh it is the black curtain.

The next night this happens again.

[Caihana]

Caihana wakes quickly after her extra long sleep, a nightmare bringing her back from her sleep. She lies there for a few moments before dong what she can to make herself presentable and heads downstairs.

Dante and Jasmine head into there room and quickly go to sleep.

[Trog]

Meanwhile...in a forgotten room on the second floor of Trog's. Three ne'er do wells from the outer planes - spies for the evil wine god, Dionysus - concoct the next phase of their diabolical plan....

Phhhhhbtt! Please. No one goes for either of you. You're not even my species and I can tell you're both ugly.

A tall slender man, a short fat one, and a black coated Llama with bat wings lounge on the bed in the small room. The men seem to be flicking wands at a small crsytal ball sitting on the table. The Llama watches from her pallet of straw in the corner.

These darn new wands take some getting used to. i liked the old joysticks better.
Maybe if you grew a Dexterity score you'd be able to beat me.
Bite me, slats.
I'm playing the winner. Wake me when he finally...

*on the other side of the room a forgotten back pack rustles and falls over and a wine bottle rolls out and across the room. The three watch the bottle somewhat disinterestedly. Then the bottle rights itself and a big giant head...the severely burned head of Dionysus appears floating in the room.

Oh spoon.
Oh fork.
Oh... uh... knife?

Silence, fools!

You know I think she was someone we were supposed to look for long ago.

Oh you mean that guy that you were hitting on in the Ethereal plane that dumped you.

The short man buckles over and claws at his throat.

The head disappears and the short man lets out a huge gasp.

Vael comes upstairs, Seren in his arms. He waves open his door with telekinesis, then places her on the bed. For a moment he sits next to her smiling with relief and content. Then the wearied, injured psion slips off the bed and hits the floor, unable to sustain conciousness.

[Seren]

Seren wakes with a start and looks around wildly. Realizing that she's in Vael's room, she relaxes noticably and leans back against the bed for a time, concentrating on slowing her breathing.

When she finally gathers enough energy to start to slip carefully out of bed, she nearly steps on the slumped form of Vael. "Oh!" Finding herself far too weak to actually attempt to lift him onto the bed, she manages to gather a cushion of light beneath him to move him slowly up onto the bed. Having now used all of her energy again, she curls against him and falls back asleep.

Vael slowly comes to, disoriented and still quite drained from the fight. He smiles as he sees Seren, and is about to put his arm around her when he feels the remaining burns and broken ribs. Wincing, he pulls the charm from his belt and uses the remaining energy in it to heal himself. After the positive energy flows through him he relaxes a little more and gently takes Seren into his arms. He closes his eyes and goes into a very light meditation.

Bel'Gaer walks lightly into the top floor of Trog's Tavern. He is in his usual form, of an elf with silver scales, fangs, bat wings and a swishing tail. He calls out, Vael? His call is answered with silence. He brings up his true sight, and sees a bright light filling one of the rooms. Down the hall, he sees some black shapes, but they are of no use to him. He goes to the door of room 8 and knocks.

[AmberVael]

Vael snaps awake and turns incorporeal before he realizes what woke him up. With a sigh he goes to the door and through it.
Bel'Gaer might notice that Vael's clothing is half charred, and there are some faded burn marks over the left side of his body. His incorporeal form almost seems... uncontrolled. It flickers and the edges are a bit misty.
Yes?

Bel'Gaer coughs, before saying, As the main advocate of chaos in this town, any chaos that will occur with significance must pass through me. It is because of this that I am bound to ask you about Solus.

[AmberVael]

Vael looks entirely confused.
What about my last name?
He shakes his head and goes downstairs unsteadily.

[Seren]

When Seren wakes, she is disappointed, but not surprised to find Vael gone. Having now slept the whole night and most of the day, she's feeling a bit better, and gets up and moves slowly downstairs.

Seren comes back upstairs and looks for a moment between rooms 8 and 14....Finally deciding that someone else has likely rented her room while she was dead, she goes back into Vael's and falls asleep.

#16 (I think this one is still unoccupied)

*Ceika walks upstairs, possibly followed by the white fox, and heads into her room. She kicks off her boots and flops down on the bed. She partly wants to scream, partly to cry, but mostly, she just wants to sleep. She is asleep within minutes.*

Vael comes upstairs and turns incorporeal and goes into his room.

Once inside he hesitates, and then goes into the secondary room created by his portable hole. He manifests a large number of detection warding powers, then swiftly takes off his third eye and places it in the box Regiji gave him. He then snaps his fingers and the box vanishes into his glove. He walks back into the main room and falls asleep next to Seren.

[Ceika]

Ceika rolls over and sits up. She'd been awake for several hours already, but the sunlight streaming through the window finally got to her. She pulls her boots back on, scratches the little white fox on the head (if he stayed with her), and heads for the door.

[Seren]

Seren jerks awake again and sits up in a panic, breathing hard and not knowing where she is. Eventually seeing Vael next to her, she calms a bit and curls closer against him, although she doesn't fall back asleep for a very long time.

[AmberVael]

Vael wakes up, but decides not to actually get up for a while. He puts an arm around Seren, smiling at her.
Its been quite some time since I was this happy.
For some reason, the book he had read comes to mind.
Time... the Book of Mist... by the stars... The Hall of Time and Mist.
Vael snaps incorporeal and goes downstairs.

[Seren]

Seren wakes again and slips downstairs.

Seren comes back upstairs after learning that they in fact have not rented her room to anyone else. She goes into room 14, and finds that while things are a bit messier, the place having been dismantled while she was gone after all, that all of her, admittedly few, belongings are still there. She gathers them into a bag, which she then places gingerly in Vael's room. I hope this is okay. She then heads back downstairs again.

Vael appears and drops into his portable hole. He drops his demon slaying sword into it and pulls out a shortsword that appears to be shifting colors ever so slightly. He smiles at it.
I thought I still had this.
He puts it on his belt, then slips on his ring of anti-precognition, then pulls out another ring, which he puts on. He places an amulet around his neck, then activates his Ioun stone.
Last he snaps his fingers and the box appears in his hand. He opens it and places the lens on his forehead.
It is coming to an end at last.
He goes downstairs.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames appears in the hallway and knocks on the door of #8. Seren? Are you there?

[Seren]

Seren opens the door silently and nods at Iames. From the look on her face, it almost appears she knows what's happened.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Hello, Seren. I'm sorry to have to tell you, but Vael is dead.

[Seren]

Seren's voice is small when she finally replies. "I.....I take it this is not something you can reverse?" She blinks back tears and moves back inside the room to sit on the bed, motioning Iames to come in if he would like. "No, of course not. You wouldn't be telling me if it were."

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames hesitates, then enters. I will be honest with you, Seren. I am fairly confident I can revive him, but I'm not sure that doing so would be wise. Iames is carrying an urn, sorry if I didn't mention that before.

[Seren]

"Why not?"

[Lord Iames Osari]

Just before the end, after absorbing the powers of the god Dios and a man named Ayral, he reverted to being evil. Fenix took control long enough to slay their shared body, and I am afraid that if I raise Vael, he will still be evil and still possess the powers he stole.

[Seren]

Seren allows this information to digest slowly. "I......I see." She seems rather unsure of what to do now and merely sits on the bed, tears trailing down her cheeks and looking very small and vulnerable.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames puts down the urn, goes to her, and wraps her in a hug. I'm sorry, Seren. I will look into the possibility that raising him will not bring him back evil, but I won't make any other promises than that. I hope you understand.

[Seren]

Seren nods and leans against him, choking back a sob. "It's...I....It's just that I...I only had one day. I hadn't even told him I loved him since I came back."

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames starts to cry himself. Oh, Seren... I'm sorry I can't do anything more for you than this. Vael turned to ashes after he died, and I put them in the urn. You can have them if you promise me you won't try to have him resurrected without me around. I don't want to risk unleashing an evil like that if I'm not there to contain it.

[Seren]

Seren nods and looks at the urn, "No, I wouldn't do that. I mean, if it was to the point where Fenix....." she seems a bit dismayed at what could have happened to make Fenix believe that helping Vael was no longer possible. "No...I....I wouldn't do that.....I....thank you." Her voice is little more than a whisper now.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Iames squeezes her slightly. I'm sorry. I'm going to miss him myself, though I know not as much as you will.

[Seren]

She nods. I should have been there.

[Lord Iames Osari]

Perhaps. We'll never know, now. He releases her. Please excuse me, I have to go.

[Seren]

"Of course. I'm sorry." Seren closes the door behind Iames and looks at the urn on the floor. She briefly considers where in the room she should put it before leaving it untouched and collapsing on the bed sobbing. The pillow smells like Vael and she clutches it tightly to her, burying her face in it until she finally cries herself to sleep.

Iames disappears.

[Seren]

Seren wakes early but remains curled in the middle of the bed, not wanting to move.

Maal comes upstairs and finds room 2, then goes inside and swiftly arranges it to his liking before going to sleep.

The next day, Maal wakes up and goes downstairs, taking his spellbook with him.

Svadris and Thud come upstairs and go into room 14. The door shuts and locks behind them.

Seren finally decides that she really shouldn't stay in bed any longer and gets up to go downstairs. She stops in front of the urn for nearly a full minute before finally placing it carefully on the desk and leaving.

Seren returns to the room and rather than going to sleep, steps out onto the balcony, where she sits and stares into the night sky long into the morning.

I suppose I could go back....
Orcus probably isn't guarding the place anymore...
But is there anything for me there either?

Svadris and Thud leave #14 and go downstairs.

There's a knock at Seren's door.

[Seren]

Seren turns away from the balcony and calls towards the door, "Yes?"

[Rebonack]

"It's Regiji again," comes Regiji's voice from the other side of the door. "Sorry about zoning out on you last night, I'm still not use to the weird way time flows here. I brought up some breakfast for you. Figured you could use it."

[Seren]

Seren swings the door open, surprised. "Oh....Why thank you." She motions him to come inside if he'd like.

[Rebonack]

Regiji comes into the room holding a dark grey, almost black tray. It appears to be made of a ceramic of some kind. Several lighter colored dishes sit neatly atop it housing several steaming eggs and some toast. The freshly squeezed contents of an unsuspecting citrus fruit in a rather plain looking glass is also included. Oddly enough, Regiji wasn't holding the tray when he had climbed up from the first floor.

"Wow, Trog's has some nice rooms. I might have to see about renting one instead of falling asleep on the counters down stairs," he places the tray on a nearby table. "I wasn't really sure what a 'normal' breakfast consists of around here, and that Cosmo guy looked like he would pull my lungs out if I asked. So I just called in something traditional from home. I hope you like it."

[Seren]

"Well, I can't say I've ever actually eaten breakfast around here, so I'm not sure what it consists of either. But this looks quite nice, thank you." She sits at one of the chairs at the table.

"Although I must say I'm rather surprised. I barely know you and you're bringing me breakfast."

[Rebonack]

Regiji shrugs.

"You've spent the past couple days hiding up here by yourself. I figured it would be healthy to have someone to talk with," Regiji sits in one of the other chairs and rubs the back of his head absently. "I've... lost people close to me before. And I spent a long time alone mulling over it. People shouldn't have to go through this sort of thing by themselves."

[Seren]

Seren looks sadly down at the plate of food in front of her, "I...well, thank you, I appreciate the offer. I...I'm fine though, really."

[Rebonack]

"If you don't feel it's time yet to talk I understand," Regiji responds rather somberly. "I just wanted you to know that you don't need to face this by yourself. There are plenty of people in this Town who would be willing to help. You just need to ask."

Regiji stands up and smiles.

"For now, enjoy your breakfast. I'll be on the ground floor," Regiji places his right hand on his left shoulder and gives a shallow bow. "May the Shepherds watch over you in your wanderings."

He walks out the door and back down the stairs.

[Seren]

Seren thanks him again and returns the smile slightly as he leaves, before turning to pick at the breakfast. It is rather good, but she finds she's not particularly hungry still. However, she forces herself to eat some of it and then heads back onto the balcony, seemingly oblivious to the chill air.

Seren jerks awake with a slight scream and looks around. Sweat beads lightly on her forehead, in spite of the fact that she's still out on the balcony and now covered in a dusting of snow. She shakily pulls herself up and heads back inside.

She sits on the bed for a long while, slowing her breathing and warming up, before deciding that perhaps she should go downstairs for some hot chocolate to warm away the rest of the chill.

[AmberVael]

Maal comes upstairs slowly, trying to remember what room he got.
He notes Seren go downstairs, and her expression and demeanor, then smiles to himself and goes back downstairs.
What good timing.

[Kyrian]

Kyrian heads upstairs and enters #1. After a quick glare at the room, all the dust and cobwebs have vanished. He crawls into the bed and goes to sleep.

[Seren]

Seren slips into Vael's room and lays down on the bed. Sleep is, as usual, long in coming, but this evening her thoughts are preoccupied with Fenix rather than Vael.
I do wonder what happened to him when Vael died...
You don't suppose there's a chance that he and Maal are the same...
She eventually falls into a fitfull sleep, her mind mulling over possibilities.

Kyrian wakes up and leaves his room in the morning.

[Jonnadiah]

A wealthy merchant and his wife who just arrived to Town on a shipping deal head upstairs and locate room 20, open the door and walk in, shutting and locking it behind them.

[Seren]

Seren wakes early and starts to go back onto the balcony for the day again, but pauses with her hand on the door. No...go downstairs...see people... She allows her hand to drop and moves toward the door, allowing her fingers to trail lightly over the urn as she passes, and heads down into the tavern.

[AmberVael]

Maal comes upstairs and goes to Room 2, and unlocks the door.

Cassandra follows him up

Maal opens it and waves her inside.

She walks inside, looking around curiously.

[AmberVael]

The room is almost entirely untouched. There is only one object of interest, which is a silver bowl filled with water.
Maal shuts the door behind him.

She looks back at him

Maal locks the door.
We won't want to be disturbed.
He goes directly to the bowl of water and looks into it, placing his hands behind his back.
