For a friends campaign I want to make a clockwork wooden mech to ride and fight in. For scale size and style, think less Gundam and more Tron Bonne. And I don't simply want some ride with a slam attack. The weapons I had in mind were the fists of course, as well as harpoon and reel, flamethrower, and cannon.

So how do I make this happen if possible? As well as determine attacks, stats, and the mech's hd.

Also, I want it so that others aside from the wizard himself can pilot it and access the weapons, so the less magic centric the solution the better.

There you go. Behold, the Apparatus of the Crab! It's not exactly what you're looking for, but I'd say it's pretty close. Enjoy!

And I'm sure you could talk to your GM about using a few Craft Magic Item feats (and/or a few thousand GP) to improve it.

I know about Apparatus of the crab. It's not what I was asking for. Believe it or not it's essentially what I had in mind when I said I didn't want a simple ride with a slam attack.

*shrug* You're SOL short of homebrewing, then. I'd recommend using a Grammarie biollurgical chassis (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13732870&postcount=5) and applying the Graughtsman's Artificial Fleshshape class feature (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=13732940&postcount=13) to it to turn it into a ridable, mindless construct. After that, apply as many grafts as you like from the Xenoalchemist (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=205119) to customize the construct.

Or, import the Construct Armor (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/building-and-modifying-constructs) feat from Pathfinder and make a golem. Whatever floats your boat.

So there are no set rules for crafting such a machine? Very well, if you were DMing, then how would you set rules for it?

Just use a mount with the Construct type.

If I were DMing it?

Here's what I'd require: The same sort of procedures required for Making a Golem of the appropriate materials (Wood in this case).

Each Weapon would require a Craft (Weaponsmith) and Knowledge (Engineering) check to effectively create and mount onto the chassis.

Each Round would require Profession (Siege Engineer) checks to use the full abilities of the Mech. Otherwise you're limited to Movement and a Punch/Slam. If you make your check you may attack once with each weapon on the rig. Making your Profession (Siege Engineer) check would also allow you to Reload expended weapons like a Harpoon Launcher as part of the attack pattern.

That's probably how as a DM, I'd approach it if a player asked me about it.

This (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20070212a) isn't exactly what you want but it seemed relevant enough to mention.

Literally just answered your question.

Dragonnmech comes to mind. I havn't dabbled in it myself but I've been referred by others when asking questions reminiscent of your own.
It is 3.0-ish era in case that matters.

As for 3.5 rules for modifying constructs, one method (which is highly subject to rules interpretation so beware) is to just treat them as Custom Magic Items. You modify the costs just like you would a Custom Magic item.
Good for things like combining existing Wondrous Items with a construct, making one-use item versions of constructs, constructs with charges either for how often/how long they can be animated or for spells you've put in them as though they were a staff or wand.

The possibilities are endless. But then, as with all Custom Item creation, so are the abuses.

I suggest finding a cool creature and using the Effigy template and the Construct Armor mod from Pathfinder to make a cool mobile suit with more than just slam attacks.

That or use Astral Constructs from the Psionics book.

I'm functionally playing a psionic expy of Tron Bonne in a Red Hand of Doom campaign. I used Thrallherd levels to pick up a Warforged Charger and fluffed it to be more walker-like then used some cross-class ranks in Ride to mount the thing. Right now it just has it's Slams, but internal weapons could pretty easily become Warforged Components slapped onto the thing.
