I'm dming with people from a range of experiences from no experience, to decently experienced. I was going to do one or two oneshots to help get people up to at least some knowledge and experience but unfortunately one of the players is on vacation at the time but will be back when we are doing a campaign. Are there any good online resources that can help teach someone how to play other than just reading the srd?

it's rather easy to get most of the books in 3.5 (w/ web enhancements and errata) as pdf files.

That said, the best way to teach someone D&D in my experience has been by sitting them at the table, and walking them through it. That said, with the pdf's/srd and a simple skype call, you could walk them through it that way.
