So the text for Disguise self stats you can make your equipment look different, and do things such as making an axe look like a dagger if you so choose, but exactly how different can you make your equipment look? can you go as far as make your cloak invisible? or all of your clothes for that matter?

It says you can make them look different, not disappear. As a guideline I would look at the changes you are allowed to make to yourself. You can change your height up to a foot, appear thinner or fatter, cannot change your body type (so same number of appendages, etc.), and may add or obscure a minor feature.

So you should be able to accomplish similar changes to your clothing, armor, weapons and equipment. For instance, you could make your cloak appear shorter or longer, bulkier or more threadbare, add a clasp, or obscure a house sigil. But it would still appear to be a cloak of some sort.

You could not make your cloak invisible because then the spell would have to change the cloaks look every time you moved. For example, when standing up against a brick wall you could disguise self your cloak into blending in with the wall. When you moved away from the wall and stood up against the cobblestone wall, your cloak would look like it was made of bricks, and it would stand out against the cobblestone wall.

wouldn't your cloak already do that if it was made shorter? the cloak isnt actually getting smaller, its entirely an illusion. When you make yourself shorter with the spell, your viewpoint wouldn't change as it is just an illusion, but to others you would look shorter.

You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your body type. Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person

See also; Ask your DM, regarding making clothes invisible.

Aside from the obvious *your clothes are invisible, but you are not*, there isn't much you can break the game with this spell, other than its intended use.

If you say to your DM "I want to do this" with your spell, such as make the weapon disappear, you'd have to be careful where you placed it; a crowded situation and you're knocking people with a sword despite it "appearing" to be invisible (it's still the same size) could get a bit antsy. Or you could misplace it, or accidentally walk into someone and stab them with it, which is what could happen if you intend to break the DM's aim of telling the story. Making ones self invisible is something that's the "reserve" of the spell "Invisibility" so your DM however would be capable of just saying, "no that doesn't work".

For all that, you might as well disguise it as something else; perhaps a sword into a ritual dagger which you hold on a chest bandolier, or a battle axe into an ornate ceremonial sword (just wear leg greaves under your trousers) If you disguise it as a walking stick, you could forget to hold it like a walking stick, and someone seeing the illusory staff moving through the dirt (like a video game's clipping issues) could begin to get suspicious.

my goal was more for disguises and hiding things such as my quiver, haversack, and travel cloak if need be.

That is something I'd consider to be fair game, but YMMV.

Well you could disguise your weapons as something else. Perhaps your quiver as a sash for example, I don't really see the need to make something completely invisible.

Well when if i happen to be doing something such as infiltrating a lord's castle to steal something from his vault on the evening he is hosting an event. it would be rather odd to attend as an escort with a haversack and quiver.
