[PF] Freeport companion build advice

My DM is running a Greyhawk campaign and is allowing the use of classes from the Freeport pathfinder companion. I do not normally play melee characters but felt like doing something different and found the Survivor class appealing. Essentially it is an unarmed tank, like something you might imagine if a barbarian and monk had a child. (d12 hit die, full BAB, gains monk unarmed strike and armor bonuses, better than a barbarian damage reduction, no armor, shield or weap prof, save unarmed.)

Does anyone have any experience with this class and have any advice, recommendations of things to do, or traps to avoid? Any general recommendations that anyone thinks might carry over from a monk or barb?
