There seem to be a lot of spambots posting threads in the forums lately (mostly movie download adds). Is the website security having problems keeping them out? Anything we as posters can do to help?

Nothing but report them as you would normally do, and refrain from replying to the threads.

refrain from replying to the threads.
I don't know, I think we can trip them up with paradoxes and whatnot. Something like-

BOT: Watch this movie!
JANUS: Hey, Bot, Rawhide only speaks lies. Everything Rawhide says is a lie.
RAWHIDE: I am lying.
BOT: :smalleek: That's true! But you can only tell lies! Yet you told the truth! DOES NOT COMPUTE! DOES NOT- *burn out*

Not if they never come back to "read" a thread they started.

It would be more like

JANUS: Hey, Bot, Rawhide only speaks lies. Everything Rawhide says is a lie.
RAWHIDE: I am lying.
BOT: Watch this movie Liar Liar!

Of course they'll come back. Bots are known for their hubris.

It would be more like

JANUS: Hey, Bot, Rawhide only speaks lies. Everything Rawhide says is a lie.
RAWHIDE: I am lying.
BOT: Watch this movie Liar Liar!
Hmm, good point. Maybe we can use them for a "Recommend Me a Film!" thread?

I don't think you guys understand the way bots work. They are not sentient.

That's what they want you to think, dude.

Hmm, what if you PM the bot a link to a bot-disabling site? You know, that website that permanently disables all spam-bots in the world? I believe its URL is www.<redacted-by-the-pro-bots-advertisers>.org:smalltongue:

Sheriff: Okay, question answered and silliness engaged. Thread locked.
