View Full Version : [3.5] Alchemist Help

So I'm thinking of making myself a Gnome Alchemist, with Bard 2 / Rogue X. When it comes to base classes we play core only, so I needed the spell-casting class to be actually able to craft Alchemy instead of what I believe is usually suggested: Artificer. His main weapon of choice will be Alchemist's Fire which I would like to make myself as much as possible. And now I'm looking for ways to get more out of Craft (Alchemy) (and out of my bard levels.) For example, one of its spells will be Lullaby and I'm trying to find an item which I can make with Craft Alchemy which can put people to sleep. I found "Alchemical Sleep Gas" which is nice but uses a Fortitude Save were as Lullaby only helps me with Will Saves. Is there an item which I can make using Craft (Alchemy) which puts people to sleep if they fail a will save?

Another thing I'm trying to create is a Batman-style Recipe book, the same way wizards have their Spell-books which allow them to prepare for situations I like to have an Alchemical Recipe Book with a lot of items I could create to counter specif type of situations, any good suggestions for that?

And finally, what are the "fixes" used on the Craft (Alchemy) system, because (if my math is correct*) it would take a Skill Check of 67 to quickly make 1 Alchemist's Fire in just one day which, apart from making it impossible to create enough Alchemist's Fire for yourself, just doesn't seem realistic for something that costs only 20 GP. I know it's much easier to just buy a truckload of those things but that's not the type of character I want to make. I want to make my own bombs. So what kind of "fix" to the craft system could I ask for to make more Alchemist's Fire quickly without being able to abuse it?

*My Math, if Correct goes like this: Item Price *100 (because crafting per day uses Copper Pieces) = 20 * 100 = 2000
Divide 2000 by the Craft DC + 10 (The Extra 10 can be added once to make it more quickly) = 2000 / (20+10) = 2000 / 30 = 66 and 2/3 or 67 because you can't roll a 2/3. 67 would then be the Skill Check needed to complete the item in one go.

Grenadier Feat into Mad Alchemist Feat (Tactical) both from PHB2. The Mad Alchemist Feat allows you an Craft Alchemy skill check to counter spells. It also will slightly increase your fire damage and allow you to create rough terrain.

Those feats are definitely already part of the plan but right now I'm more looking for items either to be created by Alchemy or magical items which could boost this type of character

I'd talk to your DM about porting this (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/baseClasses/alchemist.html) in. It is quite literally exactly what you described wanting.
