Hi,

I'm a new player about to do my first game (on roll20) with a bunch of other new people. However I have played neverwinter nights 2 and Starwars KotOR 1 and 2, so I understand the general concepts and I also know that some feats are given.

I play to play a Conjurer 3/Master Specialist 2/Malconvoker 9 and then something (there are options and provided I don't drop any Spell caster levels, I'm flexable for the remaining)

The general theme I am going with (even if it is sub optimal) is to summon lots of things (inc planar guys) and have them hit the enemy until there is no more enemy to hit.

I also plan to get rid of evocation and something (possibly two somethings?). IAW the wisdom of treantmonklv20, i wont be getting rid of Abjuration or Enchantment (and i'd like to keep Necromancy/Illusion for the debuffs and the +10 charisma on bluff checks from serene visage)

My question is this

How should I allocate my feats in order to avoid getting feats I would get later.

For example, I want to take rapid and enhanced summoning (UA page 60) off the bat at level 1 (we are stating at level 4 if that matters).

But after that I'm kinda stumped as to which meta-magics are duplicated (and which of those stack) and which I should be focusing on...

OR

Do I want to get feats like toughness etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and (possibly) answer me. One final request is to please try to avoid acronyms for things and to say the books the feat/spell/whatever is out of (ironically book acronyms are ok)

You don't want toughness and the like.

The Malconvoker (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19872758/Mastering_the_Malconvoker) handbook is probably a great start, for feat diving and stuff.

I have already read that and i can see the feats i WOULD want. But i don't know about order to get them in (does that matter?) or how to avoid double ups that i would get from other classes.

IAW the wisdom of treantmonklv20

In hindsite I probably should have mentioned the handbook, not the author

Finish off with Archmage? Good class, you need one of the spell focuses anyway, and master specialist will give you the skill focus. So for the cost of one feat, you get a pretty good class.

Finishing off with fatespinner is kind of nice (Complete Adv)

And consider bringing master specialist up to level 4, the bonus may be worth it. You should also focused specialist. It's worth it.

For early feats, consider Nymph's Kiss (if good, BoED) for your CHA checks and an early extend spell perhaps. Also cloudy conjuration is very worthwhile. After that, consider summon elemental (reserve from Complete Mage) unless you are starting very high level. Skill focus bluff isn't bad but you can do better.

Later on when you have the prereqs/spells available to cast, try to get repeat spell (CA) and maybe metamagic school focus (CM). Residual magic can also be fun. With repeat spell, the malconvoker bonus, and residual magic, you can dump 2 nasty evil monsters on the board the first turn, then they appear again the next turn. That next turn, you can do the same exact thing. Edit: Add fun with twin spell if you have enough feats/slots.

However, you could make a malconvoker with all worthless feats and do great.

I'd suggest getting Cloudy Conjuration ASAP. Free battlefield control and debuffs just for being awesome is always handy. If you're going malconvoker, then focused specialist is almost a gimme. Once your prereq's and Cloudy Conj. are handled, its largely grabbing the essentials to taste. I suggest getting the Summon Elemental feat as soon as its available, though. The utility can be incredible.

If you can spin Southern Magician and Arcane Disciple into your character, you can go Thaumaturgist for: A Planar Cohort w/o the rest of Leadership (usually DM approved!), no CL loss, extending your extended twinned summons, improved planar ally to play with your improved planar binding (eh...probably not worth the feat). Still, another +1 free metamagic on summons and a second character for the cost of 2 feats ? I think thats worth 5 levels. Not quite Trallherd, but what is? Leaves 1 level for Archmage.
May need to ask your DM to adapt a few things (Planar Ally to Binding?). Ask real nice if being granted Augment Summoning a second time might translate into improved boni...?
