Hello playgrounders!!! I will be playing a bard in a new campaign. We play very seriously, giving emphasis on rolapleying and narrative over combat. So I decided I will be bringing my guitar to the sessions, playing all the songs that my character would be playing. I need some suggestions for songs.

So far i have:

The Bard's Song (Blind Guardian)
Skalds and Shadows (Blind Guardian)
Scarborough Fair
Tale of the Tongues (Malukah's version of a Skyrim bard song, I have changed it a bit to fit the setting)
Sovengarde Song (with a little changed lrics) - thanks to Flickerdart
The Minstrel Boy (The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem) - thanks to ninjadeadbeard
The Elven Queen (original)
The Crownless King (original) - still working on this one
Sir Eglamore by Kate Rusby - thanks to BWR
Green Brooms (Danu) - thanks to BWR
The Bear and the Maiden Fair - thanks to DMwithoutPC's
The Duke's Eldest Daughter/The Elven Harper - thanks to endoperez
The Hunt Is On (Heather Alexander) - thanks to endoperez
The Old Ways (Loreena McKennitt) - thanks to endoperez
Home Again (Blackmore's Night) - thanks to ninjadeadbeard

And the ones I like but I'm not so sure about:

Wasted Years (Acoutsic version of Iron Maiden song)
Distant Shore (Karan Casey)- thanks to BWR
Caledonia (Rapalje) - thanks to Swaoeaeieu
The Mermaid (Great Big Sea) - thanks to Swaoeaeieu
The queen of Argyll (Silly Wizard) - thanks to Averis Vol
Warrior (Mercedes Lackey) - thans to endoperez
Changeling Child - thanls to endoperez

I need more songs, if they have a medieval/fantasy tone to them even better.

Accoustic version of Wasted Years (Iron Maiden) - not so sure about this one

Thank you all very much for the replies. Much appreciated. I'm keeping the Sovengarde Song. I might change the lyrics a little bit, but it's a great song for a fantasy setting, and I cant believe I have missed it up till now.

There's probably a few Zeppelin songs that would work... I'll suggest The Battle of Evermore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGAKeHQUx-U).

Mood for a Day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aHhWHQX_4k) - Yes
Lucky Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89g1P_J40JA) - Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
Iron Swan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTYrAF0wi8g) - The Sword (you probably only want the beginning of this one, though).
Mother Goose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpO_oVtXCa4) - Jethro Tull (there are other good Tull songs for this, too)
Rivendell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_G-zanqLD3M) - Rush
Epitaph (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48sciFaO9B8) - King Crimson
All Along the Watchtower (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YanjY9CsPDQ) - Bob Dylan
Solitude (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8lAzfI90DE) - Black Sabbath

That's probably enough for now.

Queen actually has a number of killer songs for a bard, if you just adapt a few of the lyrics to cut down on anachronism.

One of my top 3 favorite characters ever was an extremely unchaste bard whose set list was comprised mostly of Queen songs.

Fat Bottomed Girls (http://youtu.be/VMnjF1O4eH0) was his favorite closer. Very popular in Dwarf and halfling bars. Not so much in elf bars. Just change "bikes" to "steeds," and you're good to go.

Seven Seas of Rhye (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efzq06bewtM) is another great one. Would not recommend in a super-religious town.

And Princes of the Universe (http://youtu.be/VEJ8lpCQbyw) is basically perfect. Even better if you've got accompaniment.

Oh, and duh - Jethro Tull's Broadsword (http://youtu.be/WEZQKrJ5_lk) is another classic for bards. Just change 'cross of gold' to fit the world's religion. I still sing that to my toddler when I put him to bed.

Another Clancy &TM fan. Excellent

Sean ac'Donncha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2i-n36fipF8) is pretty damn authentic, but something of an acquired taste.

Lasairfhiona (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhyWXnyykds)is a bit easier on the ears (and eyes).

Some harp music by Laoise Kelly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7z7YUqPeBo&list=PL6997FB25764A9638).

Karen Casey (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9NN4fS6UU) and Karen Matheson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-jm2P9UWLA&list=PLE5E95EB53A44A4D4) are a bit less hardcore trad, but I like them.

Kate Rusby is good, espceially Sir Eglarmore (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyr3LVlCE0w)

My sister would be very disappointed if I didn't plug Danú (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-1qJd8ZxlE)while I was at this.

I think I'll stop there before I really get going.

Corvus Corax' lyrics won't be of much use to you I'm afraid, though much of their music would. Here's a drinking song in English (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3R-W7xwW7w), though.

If you don t mind the Italian language, and have the time to prepare, you could go google Fabrizio de Andre's music. He was, pure and simple, a modern bard, with real literature in his lyrics, and beautiful musical arrangements for classical guitar.

Can't guarantee they'll work for you but they might fit < . .> Best I've got anyway, unless you want a long list of Sea Shanties, which are technically the wrong era (though they're pretty good imo)

The duke's eldest daughter aka Elver Harper:

As Elven Harper
http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_11553039

The previous is a favourite of mine. It's written by Mercedes Lackey (she makes the lyrics, but the songs are often published under her name even though she doesn't sing them):
Warrior (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2Ab9UIIXm0)
Draw the Circle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbZ0kWSEvtE)

Heather Alexander has sung with Mercedes Lackey, but also does other work.
Midsummer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlKRDI5kq2U)
The hunt is on (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FozCVz0_Kpc)

Loreena McKennitt
The Old Ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35a8CRiD3pc)

Heather Dale
Changeling Child (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to2OMODXKF4)

The Brobdingnagian Bards have several nice songs, although they are mostly humoristic.

Blackmore's Night has many songs that could work.
Fires at Midnight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JWvrqqC_I4)
Ghost of a Rose (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMbvCGLyWZA)

If you want the classics have a look at the Carmina_Burana (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmina_Burana). There a lots of interpretations from medieval bands and choirs.

One of the best-known german Bards was Walther von der Vogelweide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walther_von_der_Vogelweide). I don't know if you can find the texts in english, but they sure would give an authentic feeling!

Have you considered not playing the bard as strictly medieval singing troubador type? I have always like the idea of a Homeric sort of epic prose bard, whose goal is to document for all posterity the epic events of history. He or she is constantly in the process of creating the epic poem of their age by describing the events which occur during their adventures. For roleplay you can borrow verse from real-life epics of Homer, Virgil, Milton, the prose of Shakespeare, and anything else you like. Eventually you make up some of your own. This doesn't mean you can't also play the lute and sing a bit, too, but there isn't so much pressure to sing all the time. "Sing to me, oh Muse, of the Rage of Peleus' son, Achilles!"

Also: can you sing in Swedish? lol Falconer has a couple good ones with medieval sound Vi Salde Vara Hemman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fh9frx4R38k)

Also, several songs from Jethro Tull's
Songs from the Wood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hWwt5AiXWg) would fit.

In the vein of the Homeric bard, the Norse skald could either create epics (like Beowulf), riddles (great for Fascinate ability), praise verse, the níð (basically a verse lambasting a target's faults).

I have considered that. My bard is a very complex character. He knows many of the "modern" songs and some older tunes, and at the same time he is searching for the lost chapters of history, as well as writing his own epic of the world as he sees it. He is in fact one of the last of a dying tradition of wandering bards - keepers of lore, in a time where bards are starting to turn to simple entertainers.

Also, I would like to thank you all immensely for all your suggestions. You guys are fantastic!!!!!!!
