I have a question about the effective range of psionic Energy Missile: if two creatures are standing 60 feet from each other, could one effect them both with singe energy missile?

The obvious answer would be NO for the rules clearly state: Up to five creatures or objects; no two targets can be more than 15 ft. apart.

However, if one would designate as targets objects that are between these two creatures, it seems that one could make it. The missile first strikes Enemy 1, than that tiny rock 15 feet further, that other small rock 15 feet from the previous, than another one, and finally Enemy 2. Since the "target" description says that objects could also be regarded as possible targets, this would seem possible.

And yet it does not feel right... What do you think? Thanks!

There would still be two targets more than 15 ft. apart in that example. It's not 'each target must be within 15 ft. of at least one other target' but no two targets can be more than 15 ft. apart, which means that if any target is more than 15 ft. away from any other target, one of those isn't valid.

As Mnemosyne said, you have to take the most restrictive case: "if there exists a pair of targets within the set of selected targets such that the distance between the pair is more than 15 feet, the set of selected targets is invalid". Since the existence of such a pair is not dependent on the existence or non-existence of other pairs that don't fail the criterion, adding targets in between doesn't help.

Thank you, this changes the perspective I've had and efficiently solves the case.

Not to mention if the power says "two creatures" you can't target a rock, you'd have to actually be targeting... creatures :smallamused:

Yeah, but this power says creatures or objects. :smallwink:
