In retrospect, setting the voting two months from submission & during finals week probably wasn't a good idea.

Anyway, next contest?

In retrospect, setting the voting two months from submission & during finals week probably wasn't a good idea.

If that's their excuse, it's extra sad. They could have read the entries and prepared their votes anytime during the interminable month of November. Nothing says one has to wait until the last minute! :smalltongue: (Obviously, one would want to check post-close to make sure there were no new entries or recent changes, but that'd be pretty minimal - even during finals week.)

Anyway, next contest?

Probably later today, although possibly tomorrow.

I guess the theory is that if there's enough time to read entries and vote, there's enough time to submit one's own entry. And since its generally more fun to make your own stuff than read someone else's, you get way more entries than votes. Or possibly 11 categories is too much for people to think about.

Wow, it feels nice to win so many categories with my first entry into an official GitP design contest.

On the other hand, the lack of turnout is pretty disconcerting. I was under the impression that these are usually well-attended events. Perhaps next time around some moderator-announcements or attention-drawing related threads in the Homebrew Design or general Gaming forums might get a larger chunk of the community involved.

...Perhaps next time around some moderator-announcements or attention-drawing related threads in the Homebrew Design or general Gaming forums might get a larger chunk of the community involved.

The two or three times we've done such announcements the impact was negligible. Which doesn't mean we won't try them again, we probably will. But I was rather unimpressed with the traffic generated by stickied announcements in those forums.

On the issue of votes and promoting voting, I had a crazy idea last night about voting being a prerequisite to winning. Any merit to that? Just too demanding on people's time? It was a passing thought, but I'd be interested on the community opinion on it.

If the only ones voting are the creators themselves, then we still have a serious problem. If you're resorting to mandatory voting for creators to increase votes, then we should just scrap the whole contest aspect and just make it a critique circle.

We could move the contests into the Homebrew forum instead; that would pick up more people that didn't actively view the Contest forum. I'd check VT's recent informal contests to see how that might work.

I honestly forgot about the contest after the forum move. Maybe it was because it wasnt in the homebrew section. That probally would help and seeing as there arnt very many threads on this, I dont see how it could do too much harm..

Dangit - I can't believe I forgot to vote ... I read all the entries after all.

Congratulations to all, and thank you for contributing. (And, I apologise to Mike - the Indigo Guests would have received votes in categories they didn't win in, and may (five votes, anythings possible,) have had a chance to tie ...)

Whoa, wait, I actually won something? Awesome!

...Of course, I think mine was the only detrimental template. Still, cool!

Wait? I won? cool! Shiny new title too. I meant to vote, but things popped up to keep me from my computer with enough time to read everything in one go, (which is the only way I will do it) and some of the fluff on the entries was so long I could not get through it to the crunchy. (I'm looking at you VT)
