I'm sure I've seen at least one ability that reduces the increase in spell level for using metamagic, but can't for the life of me remember what is was, or where I saw it! I'm fairly sure it wasn't 3rd party.

So, I'm looking for any help on knobbling that metamagic cost down.

this trait is one option.

The trait Magical Lineage reduces the cost of applying metamagic to one specific spell by one (though not below zero). The feat Spell Perfection allows you to apply one metamagic feat at a time to one specific spell for free, though the total spell level may not exceed nine.

There's more than one "-1 total metamagic" trait. And they are _not_ all "Magical Traits" so you CAN stack them.
Here's one now! (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/regional-traits/wayang-spellhunter-minata)

Arcane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/sorcerer/bloodlines/bloodlines-from-paizo/arcane-bloodline) Bloodline Sorcerer lets you get some freebies going X/day
"At 3rd level, you can apply any one metamagic feat you know to a spell you are about to cast without increasing the casting time. You must still expend a higher-level spell slot to cast this spell. You can use this ability once per day at 3rd level and one additional time per day for every four sorcerer levels you possess beyond 3rd"

I'm sure there's a PrC or two, or an archetype here and there that gives some X/day freebies as well.
If this goes unanswered I may bother to take a more thorough look

Staff of the Master (Necromancy)http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/staves/staff-of-the-master-necromancy allows you to use staff charges to pay the metamagic cost. And the highest level spell on it is a 3rd, so it's not terribly expensive to recharge.

Thanks for the help guys. Taking two traits to lower metamagic (especially if taken for the same spell) seems a bit cheap, but I'll see if the GM lets it fly!

Casting time isn't a problem as I'm looking at Wizard for this build anyway.

Staff of the Master and Spell Perfection are definitely later game options I'll look at picking up. They're a bit out of my 4th level price range right now, though.

Still, none of these were the droids I was looking for; it's been bugging me for days that I saw this one ability (it wasn't a trait or Spell Perfection, that much I'm certain of) that reduced metamagic by one level and still can't remember or find what it was!
